Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Once again, they take the air out of the ball and kill the clock. You guys keep pointing this out, but I think it is unfair to criticize him for this.

If you want to look at anything look at yards per attempt. He has a 8.8 yd avg/rush. I would say that is pretty good since he is leading the league. Agree??
Which gives him a 6.6 yards per play average, when you factor in his pass attempts. Which still puts him outside of the top 20 quarterback in yards per pass attempt/rush. A QB who's only asset is that he's exciting to watch, and the coaches (rightfully) want to take the air out of the ball? He's just not a good QB. Not even an adequate game manager. Let him be too exciting and he's capable throwing and fumbling an entire season away.

I am officially giving up. I have admitted to everyone that I don't think Vick is a very accurate passer. He is a good nfl qb and wins games. He strikes fear into D-cordinators and can make a big play with arm or legs everytime the ball is snapped. He also helps his team to the leading rushing offense in teh NFL. I would also say that if his receivers could just catch half of the balls that have been dropped this year, that Vick would have a completion percentage up around 60% which is pretty good.

IMO Vick is good and has improved a lot this year and I am expecting big things from him this year.

And I know that not many on here agree, but I think that Vick can take the Falcons to the promise land. He has taken them to the playoffs twice and once the NFC championship game.

But as for the time being I am checking out of this thread...

I think that Vick is the kind of guy who can be shut down by a good Defensive Coordinator. If a defense goes into a game with a weak gameplan against him, he has the potential to tear them apart. But if the defense plays smartly and to his weaknesses, he can be easily shut down by putting pressure on him, DEs staying home, LB spy, etc. His passing game doesn't demand the respect to not allow a defense to put constant pressure on him, and as the Eagles did a couple years ago in the NFC championship under Jim Johnson, he can be stopped.

This is why I don't think he will be a superbowl quarterback, because once you get deep in the playoffs the coaching greatly improves, defenses are prepared to stop him. However, accuracy, decision-making, and taking care of the football are all things that can be improved if he wants to take his game to the next level.

I think it's relevant to the discussion in terms of Vick's weapons, so I'll pose this question:

What skill position players on the falcons would do well on other teams?

Crumpler's pretty good, but there are tons of good TE's these days. He's probably #1 on this list.

Dunn plays with so much heart, but Vick certainly opens up lanes for him. I don't think Dunn would fit as a starting RB on most teams.

Finneran probably could contribute elsewhere, but he's not on the field this year.

Jenkins & White are questionable at best.

Lelie? A #3 WR on certain squads.

For those of you arguing about Vick's sub-par receivers, I somewhat agree. Vick's receivers are not that good, but I refuse to believe that they are as bad as pointed out. I think that Vick would actually be a decent passer if he established touch on his pass. The problem though, is that he throws the ball incredibly fast (and yes, the WR's should catch them), and it is extremely difficult to catch those passes.

By no means do I dislike Vick. I just can't stand all of the extra hype that he gets.

Like you said. Crumpler would be good on just about any team. Dunn's best year, ypc wise, was 2003. The year Vick played in five games. He really only had one bad year in Tampa, and that was his last year there. He's had good years in Atlanta, with and without Vick, so to say he wouldn't get it done is wrong, because he has. Jenkins and White have never had the opportunity to play with any QB other than Vick, so it's difficult to assume whether they would be good or not. Lelie is an ass clown, so, yeah, he sucks.

Lelie is the only WR that can catch. I wish you actually watched the game every week so you would know a little more about what is going on. Hard to argue with someone that just watches SportsCenter and speaks like it's fact.

Nice assumption. The fact that Lelie was run out of Denver for being an ass clown has nothing to do with whether he can catch or not. BTW, 5 games 8 receptions for Lelie...outstanding. If he's the only one that can catch, then why isn't he getting the ball more? Maybe since you've actually watched the games you could clue me in.

I sure can, he doesn't know the offense yet. His only real routes are streaks and outs. Don't forget when he was traded to Atl. He led the league in TPC two years in a row, and will be the best WR we have when he knows the offense. Also about my assumption. Am I wrong? You seem to be a Browns fan so I assume you watch the Falcons instead of the Browns? What you are doing would be like me trying to discuss the Browns season after just watching the highlights since I don't see the entire game. I'll try your logic: Charlie Frye will never lead the Browns to the playoffs because his record is horrible as a starter. He has all kinds of weapons and no excuse as to why his numbers are below average and he loses many more games than he wins. Also he was on losing teams in college and has never really won anything. That holds as much weight as your Vick statements in my eyes.

First off. I don't discuss the Browns. It only depresses me.
Second. Even if I did. Comparing a QB in his second year, and making an assumption like that is no where near equitable to assessing the career of a 6th year guy (or 5 if you don't count the injury year as a year to actually study the game) who has not shown the ability to be a consistent QB, let alone the superstar that he's supposed to be.
Third. I watch a lot of games. I don't know how many times I've watched Atlanta play this year, but I've watched Vick play alot over his career, and NFL.com has all of the play-by-play of every single game.

Vick with his first 3 TD passing game, Jenkins made a great catch on the 3rd one. Warrick Dunn let one bounce through his hands for a pick before half, Polumalu made a great play on the other pick. All in all a great game so far.
