Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

That troy smith surely isn't a winner either, right 31?

I've never understood the obsession with championships. A QB needs a lot of help & luck to win a title. Favre gets lots of credit from his superbowl ring, but he hasn't made another superbowl without that incredible roster around him.

Wow. Troy Smith hasn't even completed a full season as the unquestioned starter. He isn't even out of college yet. We have the luxury of looking back at both Eric Crouch and Michael Vick's college careers as a whole, and where they stand now 5 years later. We know that neither had won a NCAA championship, and Crouch is now all but a nobody in the football world. Trying to compare the two situations, while putting words in my mouth, is just idiotic.

Me too...He does have pretty good touch on his deep ball at times...

Vick does have a cannon, i'll give him that. And I can relate with having a QB who tries to take his receivers heads off, because I am a Philadelphia fan. McNabb, while having a ton of talent, had been known to throw the ball ridiculously hard at his receivers. He's gotten alot better about that lately, and I think thats one of the things that Vick could work on to make himself a better passer.

Fine... then if Troy fails to win a NC this season, then is he not a winner? I love troy, but I don't think the NFL will let him play QB... so this might be his last year.

I think people get pigeon holed way too often based on NC/SB rings. Way too many external factors to use it as a useful judge of a QB. I don't know if there were any other teams that BRoth could have led to the superbowl last year.

I think Vick is a dynamic player who is the the ultimate playmaker. Sometimes he carries his team, other times he makes too many mistakes. So many want him to be something he's not.

I don't think they would have made a superbowl with Schaub, who also benefits from catching defenses by surprise (no film or practice to prepare for his offense). I think he would be more consistent (in a good and bad way), but would not be able to run the table to the SB.

If he doesn't play QB then I don't think he plays anything.
I thought the same thing about M Robinson, and he has impressed the SF coaches (he's now the goalline back instead of Gore). I think Smith has equal strength and better agility than MRob, so in the right situation he might excel.

I agree with the agility, but not sure about the strength...not sure Smith could lay the haymaker hit down that Robinson did last week.

Agreed, Robinson is a pretty tough guy. My football coach coached him in high school, and claims that he is a 1st round draft pick as a safety.

Young better be extremely tough, mentally. This season could be devastating to his confidence, if he isn't.
I was very sad when McNair was run out of town... he would have provided a great mentor and learning situation.
