Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Ok now I know you guys like to hate on Vick, but his pro bowl vote was only based on 33% fans and 66% players and coaches.

If the players and coaches are nominating a player that tells you that they think he is good.

So him going to the probowl isnt about hype. It is the same thing as all big ten selections, they come from the coaches who have seen these kids play and are better evualaters of talent than anyone this board.

You mean the same kind of proffessional talent evaluators who pick the Ryan Leaf's of the world? Give me a fucking break.

Everyone knows its a popularity contest within the NFL and Vick is one of the NFL's chosen ones.

Also since I visited this train wreck last I see the "bad team" and "give him credit for his running ability" excuses make a comeback.

Answer me this, David Carr plays on a much worse team than Vick does, has a 5.6 ypc average to Vick's 5.9, has a better QB rating, a better TD/INT ratio and a better completion % than Vick.

Where's the hype for him?

In fact he pretty much kills every weak argument I have seen on here in favor of Vick save for the "he wins games" thing which I am sure will be resurfacing soon.

Well said.

I actually think Carr will be pretty good if he gets an OL. Andre Johnson and Dominick Davis (Reggie Bush?) are good players. His line is not good at pass protection, obviously. However your YPC average hold no weight in this argument because teams don't scheme specifically to contain Carr's scrambling, but I'm not surprised about the other stats. Vick is not having a good year statistically or team wise, but the fact that everyone seems to feel it's impossible for him to improve I find amazing. I don't really see the need to keep arguing this because no one is going to change their mind. I will bring this thread back up in a year and we will see if anything has changed or if the numbers are about the same. If Vick has a 13/12 TD/INT ratio and a QB rating in the low 70's (and another Pro Bowl invite) we can talk more then.

no need to bring it up again in a year... it will receive a few hundred posts between now and then... largely from those who feel he is ridiculously overrated and doesn't deserve to be talked about all of the time.

Haha. You're right on the money. Being a Texans fan and all, this seems really accurate. This whole Vick thread is a joke... but not as big of a joke as the Texans this year. :(

Yeah, but if you could pick a year to be in the run for the #1 pick, it may as well be the year that the most talented amateur athlete since LeBron is entering the draft.

Haha. Yep! Don't get me wrong... The Texans are an awful team, but they have started to play much better. All they need is an offensive line, and learn how to hold a lead. Haha, I don't know if they're going to get Bush, though. They face the 49ers on the last week of the season. That game will more than likely decide who gets Bush. Should be a GREAT game. :wink2:

Here is a question. Put Vick in a Texans uni and tell me they don't have more than 2 wins.

I don't think they would have more than two wins. That team is awful.

2005 hou | 14 | 233 383 60.8 2170 5.7 12 10 | 52 292 1 |
2005 atl | 13 | 183 337 54.3 2136 6.3 13 12 | 89 547 6 l

Those are remarkably similar numbers. Carr probably has worse recievers than Vick (save for Johnson who is constantly double teamed, I can't even name another reciever on their team) and a much worse offensive line than boy wonder.
