Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Maybe, but all I'm saying is that if he isn't as good as 3 other QBs on the roster, there's no reason to even think about keeping him, because he isn't going to bring any good publicity and no one is going to pay him a front-loaded guaranteed contract, so teams won't have any money in him either. Ergo...undrafted free agent.
There are a few teams willing to sign him to compete for a starting job, but many teams are willing to sign him to run the wildcat.

True, and just for running the Wildcat (I imagine the team he plays on won't change the name to Pit Bull or anything) he'll be much more valuable than the average backup, or especially 3-hole.

I think Vick is really hurt by the bad economy in terms of getting a shot...the number of teams not willing to risk a single "I have dogs so I am not renewing my season tickets/buying any tickets this year" letters is very high right now. My guess is he will get a shot in TC somewhere, but he's basically going to be treated like an undrafted free agent in terms of making the roster.

Worse. He is hurt by his PR advisors. I guess they think that not addressing it again will help them move on - but they are wrong. He needs to practice in front of a mirror until he can say/read something like this:

"I have to be honest and say that the full nature of what I did was not clear to me. I never had a pet, or thought about animals as pets (if it is not a lie that can be proven a lie). In jail I have read hundreds and hundreds of letters from people telling me how their lives were made better by a having a cat or dog, and what a pet meant to them. I have seen pictures of their pets. In prison inmates told me of their pets. I saw the hurt that I caused all of them by the way that I treated those dogs. Dogfighting was one way to act tough where I came from. Acting tough was more important to me than not doing what deep inside I knew was wrong. Well, I wasn't tough. I was just stupid. Stupid and cruel. I cannot change the past... I have already changed the present, and with God's help I will change the future. I thank God that people got me to
understand that my whole focus on life was wrong. Being the toughest man is not important. Being a man that will do what is right, no matter what anyone thinks about it, is what tough really is. Those same people tell me God forgives me if I truly repent my sins. And it was a great sin. But even great sins can be forgiven by God.

So I welcome the doubters and the haters. You should doubt me. You should look at what I do and how I live and not take my word. Doubt me when you see me working with animal shelters and abused animal programs - say I am just trying to pull one over on everybody so I can get back to football and money.

But look out, 'cause one day even those who hate me will see that my heart is right. And if y'all never forgive me, that is OK too. Because I know my heart is in the right place. And that is more important thing.

Thank you for listening."

The capacity for the American public to forgive is vast. Bigger than even Vick's screw ups. But Vick came nowhere near the level of failing on the sword to get that sort of pass. His prior statements were not seen as sincere. He needs to get his ass in front of a mirror with a tape recorder and work on it. It is worth millions to him.

I bet we something like this in the next week. I want greenies for every buzz word he uses from my speech.

More news on the Vick team search.

Have 20 minutes? In need of a hearty chuckle? Skim the comments for a bit - thank me later. God love the great unwashed masses. When an article like this goes up - I imagine the free public internet computers at the downtown libraries get pretty busy.

Some of my favorites:

JEFF SHULTZ! ANY TEAM THAT IS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO GIVE MIKE VICK A CHANCE TO SHOW CASE HIS TREMENDOUS TALENTS IS CRAZY! ALL YOU SORRY HATER TEAMS WILL HATE THE DAY YOU IGNORED YOUR CHANCE TO WIN A SUPPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN MIKE VICK CAME KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR AND YOU ALL TURN YOUR BACK ON HIM! ESPECIALLY YOU SORRY AUTHUR BLANK! THE BEST CHANCE YOUR FALCONS TEAM EVER HAD OR EVER WILL HAVE OF WINNING AN NFL CHAMPIONSHIP LEFT TOWN WHEN YOU STAB MIKE VICK IN THE BACK JUST KEEP YOUR OWN NOSE CLEAN! YOU PROBABLY DID A LOT WORSE TO YOUR DOGS THAN VICK EVER DID! BIG MILLIONAIRE LIKE YOU BLANK PROBABLY SHOWED VICK HOW TO FIGHT DOGS AND TRAIN THEM! BLANK YOU WILL BE CRYING OVER YOUR MISTAKE ALONG WITH 32 OTHER TEAMS IN JANUARY WHEN MIKE VICK IS STANDING ON TOP OF THE WORLD IN MIAMI AFTER TAKING BACK WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY HIS! MIKE YOUR TRUE FANS WILL BE CHEERING RIGHT ALONG WITH YOU IN JANUARY WHEN YOU SHOCK THE ENTIRE WORLD WITH YOUR TALENT AND THE WHOLE NFL HAS TO BOW AT YOUR FEET AND APOLOGIZE FOR HOW YOU WERE WRONG FULLY TREATED! YOUR NEXT TEAM IS MY NEW FAVORITE TEAM MIKE!

?Isn?t Martha Stewart back on her job? Didn?t George W. Bush get a second term? Is Dick Cheney facing war charges? So why shouldn?t Mike Vick play again? Oh I forgot, dogs are more important than black people. He would have gotten off easier if he killed another black man.?

Don?t matter where MICHAEL VICK land I will forever be his FAN. I pray that he goes to a team that plays the FAKCONS and kick them out the PLAYOFFS

Why must we explain it, we are trying not to go to that level. Basically we are saying that other people make mistakes and are allowed to carry on with there jobs. Why can?t Mike do the samething. It?s not about BLK or WHT because Mayor Marion Barry got a second chance?

Colt 45 and two zigzags - baby dats all I need?

The comment feature on internet articles will prove to be one of society's most regrettable innovations. There are people on ESPN.com who think the Cubs minor leaguer who threw the ball into the stands shouldn't be punished because (1) players throw balls to kids in the stands at the end of every inning and (2) it says on the back of your ticket that you go to a baseball game at your own risk.

False. Stupidity knows no bounds, and it and mediocrity are staples of online journalism. The comments section is often the most entertaining part.

Turd, meet turd. :roll1:

The Rev. Jesse Jackson became the latest public figure to offer an opinion on the future of Michael Vick. Jackson said he wondered whether there had been collusion among N.F.L. owners to keep Vick out of the league. "I want to make it an issue," Jackson said Thursday in a telephone interview. "I want teams to explain why they have a quarterback who has less skills but is playing or at least is on the taxi squad, and a guy with more skills can't get into training camp."

Well everyone knows there's no better football talent evaluator than Jesse Jackson, so there's that :slappy:

I want to know why this has turned into a race issue, instead of an ethical or moral issue? And I also want to know when did everybody conveniently forget Mike was a below average passer, and assume just because he can run, he should be on the top of everybody's list.

Because there are a lot of below average passers in the league who can't run.
