Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Yes, but it's black folks that are bitching that Vick's been mistreated because he's black when what would do their kids the most good is to see that there are consequences for your actions and that if you always view the world through the eyes of a victim, you'll always be just that.
ANYONE who is defending him isn't going to use it as an object lesson for their kids. I also imagine that there are people of all races who are defending him. There are a lot of countries where it is not only legal but highly pursued.

Comparisons to hunting are riduculous. Hunting is an absolute necessity now. With urban sprawl and the elimination of almost every natural predator in most places in the US, the deer population would be out of control and we wouldn't be able to keep crops safe from being picked apart by them.

And most people who hunt deer, eat their kills. Something tells me Vick has never had a Presa Canario steak.

You're missing the point, BB, or seem to think my point was something other than I intended.

Yeah, that's something I have noticed. The people defending him really don't think he's done anything wrong, I heard one person call into talk radio and say that dog fighting should be legal, saying that a lot of dogs that have been made into pets are going against their natural instinct.

If you thought it was demeaning, then you completely missed the point.

I'm taking the high road...

Thing is, and there's really no getting around it...hunting is legal, dog fighting is not. Period. You don't get to pick which laws you follow because of whatever, be it desire, culture, race, whatever it is. If you break the law, then saying it's a stupid law and it's legal other places is not a defense.

I see Vick is now trying to tell the government what he is going to plead to and what he won't...apparently he missed the whole when you're under arrest, you aren't calling the shots thing.

I don't know. It's worked in the past.

So if you're under arrest the government gets to say what you plead to?

So if you're under arrest the government gets to say what you plead to?

A plea agreement is, well, an AGREEMENT. The government can offer you a plea, or the defendent can offer one to the government, but unless both sides agree to it, it obviously doesn't work. All of Vick's co-conspirators plead to killing dogs and gambling...Vick says he won't plead to those, but only to interstate commerce involving dog fighting, as if the government HAS to accept that. When you're under arrest, the government doesn't get to say what you plead to...but they don't have to accept it either.

I agree. My point is that Vick doesn't have to accept the offer the government makes.

And that is of course fully correct too. In this case, if they triple the charges against him if he doesn't, he will realize he not only made some bad decisions, but had some bad legal advice.

Report: Vick will not admit to gambling, killing dogs

The Associated Press
Published on: 08/24/07 A report on ESPN.com quotes an ESPN source saying Falcons quarterback Michael Vick will not admit to killing dogs or gambling on dogfights when he enters a guilty plea in a Richmond, Va., federal court Monday.
The source told ESPN that Vick's defense team met with federal attorneys Thursday afternoon to determine the "summary of facts" to which Vick will plead. But the source says Vick maintains he never killed dogs and never gambled on a dog fight. The source said the quarterback will plead guilty to the charge of interstate commerce for the purpose of dogfighting.
