Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

Well, I did see it first on a highly reliable news program: Jon Stewart's Daily Show.

In light of this, that Coach-In-Waiting gig for the 'Gators is looking pretty sweet. Can you imagine being the coach to step into Leach's shoes...the first time James Jr. needs to be disciplined? If he was a pain in the coaching staff's posterior before, now he's gonna be insufferable.

Just musing: what position does he play? Anything that depends on protection by your line? If so, we might find out how his teammates feel about him soon enough.

You can't play him. He has a concussion. For cautionary purposes, you have to sit him out for the bowl game and all of next year. Give him a comfortable sofa to sit on in the shade; an Appletini with one of those cute little umbrellas; and three scantily-clad co-eds to massage him if he gets sore from laying around doing nothing.

Just before the latest news about Leach getting fired came out, I heard a reporter from the local Lubbock media say that the fans are about 95-96% on Leach's side (not sure why he threw in the 96%, but I digress). If that's anywhere close to accurate, there should be some substantial backlash.

Whoa! Hold off on the massage--he might get a nasty bruise and then his daddy would sue you.

in this situation, they don't have to pay him his contract correct?

It's supposedly $400,000/year remaining on his contract, so about $1.6 mil. Of course, he was set to collect half that tomorrow as a bonus. Still, I'd have been happy to leave a job or two with a check that size in my pocket, but then, I'm not the 2008 Big 12 Coach of the Year.

edit: I'm now seeing that "termination with cause" lets the school out of owing Leach anything. Yikes!
If this was an act of vindictiveness by the James kid, he must be gloating now. Nothing like costing a man both his job and over a million dollars.

What an epic fail by Tech....Unless they hit a home run they might as well shut the doors to the football program...

Yep, same goes with Kansas. I hope they both fail miserably for quite a while. I think both programs fired their coaches(both who have taken their respective programs to unseen heights) and fired them for some BS reasons.
