OK, you ask why the l'il punk was still on the team...

I wanna know why Leach was keeping his Pieces of Eight, Dubbloons and Krugerands on his office door. $1100 for a [censored]ing door??? Pirate paraphenalia is the only possible explanation.

Maybe the door was made from planked cherry--it's quite expensive.

Judge orders mediation in Leach's lawsuit

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The judge in Mike Leach's lawsuit against the university has order the sides to try to work out a resolution.

State District Judge William Sowder on Thursday ordered Leach, Texas Tech and their attorneys to complete mediation by Feb. 5. He also placed gag order on the talks.

The university fired Leach on Dec. 30, two days after it suspended him amid allegations he mistreated a player with a concussion. His suit includes allegations of libel and slander and breach of contract.

ESPN Ombudsman rips apart ESPN coverage of James/Leach story, particularly idiot Mike Patrick's role in the Alamo Bowl.

Isn't he the same tool that asked about Brittney Spears during an overtime game?

Somewhat ironic, since the 2004 Alamo Bowl was a key reason why ESPN created the Ombudsman position in 2005. Too bad this article will be unseen by at least 95% of the viewing audience.

Yes to Mike Patrick being the play-by-play guy that was rambling about Britney.

According to a Texas Tech memo obtained via an FOI request, Craig James threatened to sue Tech if they didn't investigate the way Leach handled his son. James has denied making such a threat.

Tech: James threatened to sue if school didn't investigate Leach

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- The father of injured Texas Tech receiver Adam James threatened to sue the university if it didn't investigate then-coach Mike Leach, according to a memo released Wednesday.

Texas Tech University System attorney Ronny Wall wrote in the Tuesday memo to the Texas attorney general that the threat came during a Dec. 20 exchange with James' father, ESPN sports analyst Craig James. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal obtained a copy of the memo in response to an open records request.

The university fired Leach on Dec. 30, two days after suspending him amid allegations he mistreated Adam James, who was recovering from a concussion. The receiver says Leach twice ordered him to stand for hours while confined in a dark place during practice.

Leach denied the allegations, and responded to his firing with a lawsuit against the university, alleging libel, slander and breach of contract.

The Tech memo says James' father "indicated that litigation could ensue" if Tech didn't investigate Leach "for the improper treatment" of his son.

"The threat did not appear to be an idle threat as the parent expressed genuine concern for the health and well-being of his injured child, as well as other student-athletes," the memo continued.

James spokesman Scott McLaughlin issued a statement late Wednesday saying James never threatened to sue Texas Tech.

Mike Leach should have warned James that "complete and utter embarrassment, loss of respect and employment, and significant financial penalties" could ensue as a result of fucking with the wrong guy.

Again, here's to hoping that Leach buries these morons.

To my knowlege he was not implicated in the official investigation and resulting sanctions...which would make him the only star ont their team that wasn't.

Team? Heck, he'd have been the only player on any team in the SWC other than Rice or Baylor that wasn't getting paid.

Remember, when SMU got the death penalty TCU was already on probation and Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Houston were all under NCAA investigation. It was a distinct possibility that the league would play the next several seasons with some teams not fielding a football squad and only Rice, Baylor and Arkansas eligible for the Cotton Bowl.

SMU wouldn't have had to pay recruits if they weren't having to outbid other Texas schools in the first place. That SMU slush fund had links back into the mid-70s. Does anyone honestly believe all the role-players were getting paid while Craig James and E.D. were there for the love of the game? Dickerson's explanation for his brand new car didn't make sense in 1982, and he only looked more suspect in hindsight after the program was nailed in 1987.
