Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

Awesome.

Or, Skip Holtz could leave East Carolina for one of the current openings, then Leach could replace him at ECU and coach the Pirates. :pirate1:

The ECU Pirates now need a coach - Skip Holtz is accepting the USF job, per ESPN.

The Leach-James thing actually reminds me quite a bit of the Gary Barnett-Katie Hnida mess at Colorado. A coach got stuck with a player he didn't want (hard to say if Leach really wanted James or if the powers that be made him offer him a schollie and Barnett inherited Hnida from Neuheisel) and who couldn't help the team, but who he couldn't get rid of, tried to deal with it as best he could and finally got so frustrated that he just lost his cool and made an error in judgment that gave his enemies a chance to hang him.

In both cases, there were also hostile unofficial actors at work (da big booster at TTU, and the politically correct feminist and opportunist wings of Boulder, CO). I know plenty of people here castigated Barnett re: Hnida and are pro-Leach here . . . but I think I know more about the Barnett deal than most people here so I'll claim to be right.

FWIW, I read that Leach recruited him despite the reservations of his position coach. James was largely believed to not have the talent for D-1, but Leach saw promise in him. Nothing worse than sticking your neck out for a kid and then having it bite you in the ass.

Three interesting items in the ESPIN crawl this morning regarding Leach's lawsuit:

1) Leach accuses A. James of causing $1,000+ in damage to the coach's office door after an argument. (Again, I have to ask: why was the little brat still on the team?)

2) Leach asserts that a business relationship exists between C. James & Chancellor Hance which was used as leverage in his firing.

3) The truly stunning revelation (and I quote)

"Craig James refused comment."

Gobstopping.

Yup. Shit just got interesting!

Mike Leach lawsuit details Craig James calls, damage to coaches' offices - ESPN

Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, in a lawsuit filed against the school last week, alleges that wide receiver Adam James stormed out of the athletic offices yelling an expletive and slammed the outer door to the coaches' office so hard that it split and came off its hinges, causing approximately $1,100 in damage.

The alleged confrontation with the coaches took place after Leach and assistant coach Lincoln Riley had informed James that he was being demoted to third string.

The lawsuit, filed on Jan. 8, also details conversations and messages Leach alleges ESPN college football analyst (and Adam James' father) Craig James had or left with Texas Tech coaches about his son.

Among the details alleged in the lawsuit:

? In September, Craig James called assistant coach Tommy McVay "to tell him, in effect, that you coaches are crazy and you're screwing my kid."

? The same day that he made the call to McVay, Craig James left a message for Riley "stating, in effect, 'You don't know what you're doing. Adam James is the best player at the wide receiver position. ... If you've got the [blank] to call me back, and I don't think you do, call me back.' "

? During practices before the Valero Alamo Bowl, Adam James "told Coach [Bennie] Wylie that Wylie didn't know what he was doing and James' effort was just fine."

? Adam James "voluntarily placed himself into the electrical closet and apparently took pictures with his phone camera."

? Texas Tech president Guy Bailey advised Leach that he thought school chancellor Kent Hance was going to try to "railroad" Leach, because of a business relationship between James and Hance.

Court documents filed in the lawsuit -- which amended one filed on Dec. 29 seeking a temporary injunction to allow Leach to coach in the bowl game -- said statements from university administrators "were made intentionally" to harm Leach and expose him to financial harm.

"The mere allegation that a head football coach would mistreat a student athlete threatens that coach's reputation and prospects for future employment and exposes him to ridicule and contempt," Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, said in the court filing.

If Leach loses this lawsuit, I'm going to guess it's because his lawyer, Ted Liggett, doesn't know the proper phrasing of "phone camera" and "camera phone." I bet Liggett is like the presentation guy in that Kinkos/FedEx Office commercial. "Good morning! But I digress!"

Thank you, Dryden. I just thought I was out of the technological loop (yet again) and didn't know the current hip term was "phone camera".

Guess it's still a step up from Mr. Liggett's first draft: little picture-taking, talking-into mystery-box thingy.

In an ideal world, the following would transpire:

- txtech would pay mike Leach the entirety of his contract

- Craig James is banned from covering the NCAA for life, espn or otherwise

- Leach sues James for 5 million for damages. Payment is put into a Craig James scholarship which rewards hs student athletes who give 110% on and off the field despite not being born into any advantages

-- Leach takes over ucf and turns them into the pirates.

- the team runs out of the equipment locker before every game instead of a tunnel or inflatable helmet.

...

OK, you ask why the l'il punk was still on the team...

I wanna know why Leach was keeping his Pieces of Eight, Dubbloons and Krugerands on his office door. $1100 for a fucking door??? Pirate paraphenalia is the only possible explanation.
