JT never guaranteed a victory. He said we would be proud of our Buckeyes on that day. Big difference.
"You'll be proud of our guys in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days on the football field in Ann Arbor, Michigan"

I don't know what you gather from that, but I have always gathered a guarentee, and I'm surely not alone in that thought.

There's a huge difference between saying that the fans will be proud of the team on the field and guaranteeing a win. You might not be alone in your interpretation, but you're in a very small minority.

So, JT's guarentee against Michigan wasn't declaring he would beat them?

Just try to remember the context. We fielded a surly team in the bowl game against South Carolina and stunk up the place with a rotten attitude. There had been other discipline issues. There had been a number of articles claiming that people weren't proud to be fans of the Buckeyes.

I think he said what he meant to say. That the team would be one that fans were proud of again and that they would give TSUN a game. When he won, well that got inside VLloyd's head big time from that point forward.

We shouldn't be surprised if RR doesn't try the same thing when we play BB at AA in ten days or so. He'll be doing all he can do to win this game and try to set himself up as the return of Bo.

...on this board maybe, and I would bet that a lot of that would be revisionist thinking.

Regardless of the semantics of the 310 day speech, I continue to feel that lost in all the RR talk is just how much of a pain in the balls MSU is going to be for him.

Dantonio is an edgier more aggressive Tressel imo and he's sitting in their own backyard with what appears to be a somewhat singular obsession about beating their ass 365 days a year.

Thats something that the scUMers can ignore at their own peril imo.

Dantonio really needs to find himself a Tim Brewster, unless he can pick up some serious momentum with UM's upcoming transition year. He could not capitalize last year, even with the 2nd/3rd tier kids.

I agree JWins, coach Dan need to be a very aggressive recruiter, as I don't believe that MSU has the draw of tOSU (oh hi there captain Obvious) JT's personality works well when your school and facilities help draw the best recruits, but the calm, cool, family and integrity approach may not be enough with slick rick going against him. He will really need some top tier talent to play and be successful with a Tressel-ball type approach.

If he can get the talent to East Lansing, MSU will definitely be a thorn in rr's side, as Sparty will play aggressive, disciplined ball and rr's approach is proan to big plays and mistakes.

And it's prone, not proan.

Sparty was so disciplined this year they were able to waste a ten point lead with four minutes left at home....That's impressive.

Sorry my backs been bothering me so I had taken some Doans and was prone when I typed that

I admit it was quite difficult to type disciplined and MSU in the same post, made me want to slap myself for some reason. I do think that after MSU gets rid of their severe case of JohnL-itis that coach Dantonio will have them playing more disciplined ball, they did a much better job of not imploding as often and not packing it in, in coach Dan's first year, remember bad habits (like not editing posts pryor to entering them) are hard to break.

Fiutak names 5 non-BCS and 5 BCS coaches on their way to bigger things.

Ten coaches on the verge of being superstars

2. Mark Dantonio, Michigan State
After helping make the Ohio State defense rock and turning around Cincinnati, the former South Carolina Gamecock did the near impossible and took the flake out of Michigan State. He still has plenty of work to do, and he has to recruit well enough to get the Spartans over the hump and into Big Ten title contention, but if his first season was any indication, this will be a program to be feared. He has already established a nasty running game and a decent defense, and if he can take his team from 7-6 to, say, nine wins with a victory over Michigan, he'll quickly become a college football household name.

The Next Logical Step: Staying at Michigan State and making it a consistent power, but the South Carolina job could be interesting in a few years.

Cont'd ...

First-year coaches had quite an impact last season

Mark Dantonio, Michigan State (7-6): Dantonio is the type of coach that can make guys like Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Jack Mollenkopf, and Duffy Daugherty proud. Michigan State is a school foaming at the mouth to embrace a gridiron winner. They may have found one in Dantonio.

Dantonio making big strides with Michigan State

The top five reasons Michigan State's football program appears to have a bright future:
Better leadership: Former coaches with questionable character and swayed by political persuasion created roadblocks when it came to major decisions regarding the football program.
But the silliness has appeared to cease since the hiring of Mark Dantonio and new athletic director Mark Hollis, two members of what could be a powerful athletic department in the years to come. The football program,
and athletic department as a whole, seems to conduct their business in a much more classy and respectful way with a true sense of cooperation.
