Local news in Cincinnati is reporting the MSU AD is in town to interview Fickell tomorrow. The MSU plane landed at Lunken Airfield about 8:00 on the way back from visiting Colorado head coach Mel Tucker, who has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Luke Fickell will reportedly interview for Michigan State job

Iowa State’s Matt Campbell reportedly turned down overtures. So did Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi. San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who began his coaching career at Michigan State football, declined the opportunity to interveiw for the job last week. Saturday, Colorado’s Mel Tucker removed himself from consideration as well.

While interim Michigan State football head coach Mike Tressel is the wagering favorite, Luke Fickell has been connected to the opening since Dantonio stepped down. And has been connected as the favorite of those who will need to sign off on Dantonio’s replacement. The Cincinnati head coach stated last Wednesday that he has not spoken to anyone connected to the Michigan State football program.

And if Fickell rebuffs the overtures? FootballScoop.com reports that Pat Shurmur or Butch Jones could be in play in East Lansing.

At first I was hoping for him to stay at UC, but now I'd like to see how he can do in the B1G with a school with better facilities and an all around better set up than UC. IMO, MSU is just UC on steroids, in that he'd still be recruiting the same pool of players that Day wouldn't take at OSU. He's more of a defensive minded coach, who looks for diamonds in the rough. He could be a thorn in the side of Hairball and scUM at the very least. But I've watched enough UC games over the past few years, to know that he's still a ways away from competing with OSU(heck he couldn't win the AAC, no knock, he's just not a good game manager), or even Ped St. Get an extra mil or mil and a half to go to East Lansing, beause Idk what midwest school is opening up anytime soon that would peak his interest
