Michigan State Spartans (official thread)

Sparty is proving to be every bit of a cesspool as ped state. At least with ped state, I understand the dynamics of how it could have happened with a megalomaniacal head coach who was there long enough to actually become the center of power at the university. With Sparty, it's almost worse in that it seemed to transcend any individuals and actually be the culture of the institution to overlook this shit over multiple administrations and across multiple sports and who knows where else on campus.

No NCAA rules violated....

I don't know how it works in Gymnastics. But, I would have to think recruiting gymnasts with some kind of nod to this bag of shit was normal - "We employ the #1 trainer for USA Gymnastics, so you'll be in great hands" sort of thing. Did employing this shit bag - and specifically looking the other way - constitute a competitive advantage?

Like looking the other way about that defensive coordinator who was largely responsible for your two national championships.

I remember in Urbans first season, they were playing MSU and their stud DL was knocked unconscious. Kid was actually face down on the field, out cold. They come out, revive him and he's back in there a couple plays later.

That place has been dodgy since I can recall (back to the 80's). Tony Manderich was widely known to be the biggest steroid freak in CFB at the time but somehow MSU never noticed.

You won't hear any disagreements from me.

However, cynicism (and sarcasm) tell me they will get a slap on the wrist at most....

Totally agree. No sarcasm needed. And really, it's going to be the lawyer types that get them the slap.

It's an indictment, really, that some kids selling their stuff for tats -- which IS an NCAA violation, suffer more punishment than the collective whole of State Penn and MSU who let children be sexually abused. It's an indictment on the entire education system. I don't know that I'd suggest that it's the NCAA's place to govern / oversee things like what happened at State Penn or MSU. Frankly, given the keystone cops that is the NCAA, I'm almost convinced the NCAA should NOT be in an oversight position in these situations. But there clearly should be someone, not at the school's obviously, who is enabled to put the wood to schools when things like State Penn and MSU happen.

There is simply too much money at stake for for too many people to reasonably expect it to ever be policed.

It would be like shutting down an entire movie studio because of a director's casting couch.

Only shot is the Feds with a Title IX type thing but even then, they are up against some powerful/influential groups.

Didn't that kinda just happen?

Yeah but I believe it was his studio wasn't it?

They wouldn't shut down Sony because of some rouge director.

maybe a bad analogy, point being too many people consume the entertainment/education out of a place like MSU/PSU. They aren't getting shut down no matter how much they may deserve it.

Lotta ins and a lotta outs to that Duke case, man. Lotta strands in ol' Duker's head. Not only were they dealing with the details of the particular allegations, but it was in the unavoidable context of a whole lot of historical baggage as to how the institution, its founders and its entitled students interacted with the local African-American community throughout the decades. It was a shitshow just waiting to happen.
Why Sir, are you implying that there was some kind of inappropriate behavior going on at the Five Oaks Plantation? How dare you!

I bet the Pedsters just love that.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly where they got it from. NCAA folded on Penn State essentially saying same thing.

NCAA members learn from each others' experiences.

Ohio State self-reports a myriad of minor violations and a few big ones surrounding JT/Pryor/Posey/etc. Gets slammed.

Cryami has boosters buying hookers and blow for recruits. Tells the NCAA to go fuck themselves. Gets basically nothing.

Pedsters allow child rape for decades, gets rightfully slammed.

MSU employs a rapist as a physical therapist or whatever he was (I don't feel like looking), tells the NCAA none of their bylaws were violated. Unless the pattern changes, they will get nothing or next to nothing.

Initially Penn State got slammed; but NCAA reversed everything under court pressure -- notably PA court pressure.
That set the precedent for MSU to take the same route: "OK, this was awful. We'll make a BP-esque commercial about how we'll change -- BUT NO VIOLATIONS!! Fuck off NCAA"

Michigan State to pay Larry Nassar victims $500 million in settlements

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...se-victims-500-million-settlements/615308002/

Attorney Jamie White, who represented dozens of women who sued the university, confirmed the settlement. He said $425 million is to be paid now and $75 million will be held in reserve...MSU is facing roughly 300 victims, according to figures in court records. Penn State University paid out $109 million to 35 victims in the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
