Michigan Coaching Speculation

Did we ask him to not coach the bowl? Just wondering. (I'm legitimately asking, not being a wiseass)
Which one do you mean? (and I'm not being a wiseass either)

Oh, and on the buy-out, the cut that RR may have to pony up could be "just" $1 Million.

MICHIGAN TO PAY $3 MILLION OF RODRIGUEZ BUYOUT

MICHIGAN TO PAY $3 MILLION OF RODRIGUEZ BUYOUT
A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that Michigan is paying $3 million of a $4 million buyout of Rich Rodriguez's contract at West Virginia.
The other $1 million presumably is coming from Rodriguez. Then again, former WVU basketball coach John Beilein managed earlier this year to negotiate his buyout from $2.5 million to $1.5 million.
As we previously reported, Rodriguez will make $2.4 million per year in Ann Arbor.

I agree that bailing on the team before a game of this magnitude says a lot.

I know it's awkward and uncomfortable, but I feel he owes it to those kids to give them the best shot possible to win the game.

Not sure how I'd feel if I was Pryor and he called and said "Hey I bailed on WVU, can you come to Michigan now?

As the Pryor thread is locked, and Pryor's addition of TSUN to the list was prompted by RR's departure from his lifetime avocation as WVU's coach, I'll post this here.

Pryor on RR to TSUN
- a telling comment from his own lips, if he really thinks about it for a moment.

"He's excited and so was I," said Pryor. "Michigan was on my early list, and now their right up there again. He's a great coach and I like his offense."
Rodriguez apparently informed Pryor before alerting most others, gauging the QBs interest in joining him at his new school.
"He called me this morning and told me before he announced to anyone," said Pryor. "He said he's keeping the same offense that he had at West Virginia because it's all he knows. I love that offense. I told him I was very interested."
All that RR knows is that offense. Remember that you have ambitions to play on Sundays, remember that offense will not get you there.

And that candid bit from RR'd mouth may be all the JT and the rest of Big 10 need know - that the spread option is ALL that RR knows.

Should RR being contacting recruits? Isn't this a quiet period?

I meant did we ask RR to not coach WVU vs. Oklahoma
OK - thought that was it - reminds me to recheck at my Bowl upset picks too.
As for who asked whom not to coach the WVU team in the bowl, pretty sure WVU would have told him to get the fuck out of Dodge - that is their bent cross the border SNIPER. Turn on them and they'll bite your legs as you leave through the back-door.

Is there any credible info on the likelihood of Pryor now ending up at Michigan? I would think having Mallet in the class ahead of him would discourage him from going there. However, could you imagine the dual QB set-up they could have if they end up with both? I'm curious how RR will handle Michigan's offense since they do have Mallet, who from what we have seen so far is definitely not a spread offense QB.

Also, after our performances against U of I's spread from the last couple years, does RR's spread at Michigan worry anyone else?

years? It will concern me when a spread QB develops into the passer that Juice was against OSU. A 'spread' doesn't concern me by itself.

RRod's trenches were also very lousy at WVU, and UM has some serious holes to fix, especially tackle. ILL's OL was well regarded coming into the OSU matchup, and lived up to the hype.

So once he develops a legitimate passer (vs White running on 95% of 3rd and long) and OL, then the spread concerns me. Until then, I think he'll have to adjust his offense a bit.

Thanks, I was getting really irritated.
I think he's a great fit for scUM. He's an overrated coach, they're an overrated program. They both do the same thing with the game/season on the line. They both smell funny.

On a sad note, how are we going to add L's to a name with no L's in it?

It's the Asian century, we'll just have to get used to adding R's instead?

He no rucky win? He no win The Game? He unrucky, rose big time? He good fit for TSUN!

I would just as soon start off hating RR as not, but as for his leaving early I will defer till/if the details are known. If I am WVU and I am recruiting JJ and Pryor I might now want RR around. In fact, it now appears RR had contacted Pryor about going to Michigan before he officially left WVU.

As for Pryor following him to Michigan - that concerns me, but not overly.

I had the sense that WVU was in the mix initially because they were close to Washington, Pa. Ann Arbor is not. Still, you have a relationship between a coach and a player that counts for something. Hopefully the animosity felt in and around Morgantown can spread to Washington and color that relationship.

Given the relationship of Pryor to other OSU recruits, the additional distance to AA and his interest in playing BBall as well (UM BBall still sucks) I feel the RR hire should be strong plus for OSU. What concerns me is that RR may take a "whatever it takes" approach to landing Pryor.
