I care. I'm sure there are plenty of gay and lesbians out there who care. It's nice that you don't care though. It's a lot better than you being mad that he's gay or hoping that he fails because he's gay.
That there is a significant number of people who will hope that he fails now are the reason stories like this end up on the front page.

Should anyone care who this guy bangs? No. The issue with people in Sam's position isn't that they're gay, it's that they have to hide being gay. The "STOP PUSHING YOUR AGENDA ON ME" crowd still can't grasp this.

And you really think the incessant screeching over this story by the media helps that?

I'm pretty sure the reason he came out is because NFL front office people were already asking him about it. And he would just prefer that he be the one to talk about it rather than some unnamed source talking about it. He could have just lied in his interviews and said he had a girlfriend or something like that to avoid the issue. But he refused to play that game. That's awesome.

Plenty of people will be critical of Sam for his announcement or they'll question his motives. To that end, I truly say "Who cares?" He doesn't have to justify himself to anybody.

"Incessant screeching"? If by that, you mean reporting the story and putting a positive spin on it, then yes, it helps. It may frustrate people who are embarrassed that homosexuality was ever a barrier to begin with, but it was a barrier nonetheless. And one I am glad will finally come down.

But rest assured that the "screeching" will probably get less and less each time this happens until it is more normal. But, by then, homosexuality will be more accepted... and that prospect scares some people.

Wonderful, ESPN already having people talk about teams not wanting to take him because of the "media circus." Hey idiots, ever consider you're the ones likely to be driving the circus that may hurt his draft status?

well yeah - and the mediots making this little announcement such a circus is why it's not viewed as normal in the first place.

And they are just setting things up for when he either can't find a team at some point in his career or gets cut early on to place doubts onto that franchise's motivations. It's a nice, neat little box ESPiN has made for itself.

Again, who cares who is gay and who isn't? the Media does, because they know it'll generate eyeballs by hyping it up.

ESPiN has already defined this guys career before he's even drafted. ESPiN didn't do it (and neither is SI or fatheaded idiot Peter King) for Michael Sam or gay rights or whatever, they did it for ESPiN (or SI or MMQB or whatever). They've made a spectacle and continue to make such spectacles out of things that really shouldn't be that big a deal in this day and age.

Hopefully he doesn't end up on a team with Richie Incognito......
Incognito tweeted this early this morning:

It's the GMs who are reluctant.

It's not "normal" though. With him potentially being the first this situation is the opposite of normal. This isn't a manufactured story. There is an extensive history or either overt or unspoken hostility toward homosexuality within the sport, and this athlete is willing to become the first to take it on openly. How is that not a legitimate story?

I think Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports said it best on twitter... Michael Sam is willing to give up his anonymity on this issue, be open about who he is and deal with the reactions as they come. NFL scouts and GMs apparently are not. It speaks volumes about where the leagues teams stand on this at the moment.
