I'd like to see a few misdirection running plays added to our arsenal. That would have helped yesterday against that very quick defense. But we may have played the fastest defense we'll see before Bowl season.

I couldnt agree more. I thought Miami was a lot faster/better than what they showed against Wisconsin. Additionally, as long as TP doesnt have a Purdue performance this year I think we can book a trip to Glendale :):oh:

And if we can manhandle John Clay, then we should be able to handle Richardson of Alabama (should they be the team we face in Glendale)

If I may redirect back to JWinslow's pics for a sec...

DAMN impressive, man.

I LOVE this shot:

And the next one:

I saw the exif info, 300mm @ f/2.8, and that's an AWESOME background of the bench, considering how wide open ya had the lens!!! Especially the second one, with the faces on the sideline not too OOF.

VERY nice!

I shoot a Pentax K20D with about a dozen lenses, but recently have shifted more to using 6cmx7cm on 120 film, and scanning on an Epson Perfection V700 scanner. Currently using a 1953 Graflex Century Graphic 2.25"x3.25", and a 1951 Graflex Speed Graphic, also 2x3.

AMAZING what you can capture on a 6cmx7cm negative, and then scanned at 180-240 megapixels on a good scanner - that V700 is only a $600 scanner, but drum scanning is WAY out of my $$ range!

Excellent work.
I will definitely keep up with your photo uploads.

The defense was excellent, not because of the picks but because they way they tackled and played their positions. Well disciplined, hard working and QUICK. B-Rolle nearly had the pick on Harris' last pass, and he and Homan looked good, as well as the entire d-line.
Well, I wouldn't go that far. The defense gave up 352 yards, which isn't exactly an excellent performance ... but it looks even less excellent when you factor in Miami's 393 return yards and what was essentially a 40-yard penalty for the kick-off out of bounds. All told, Ohio State gave up 785 yards to the Canes, which is quite a lot. The defense also allowed the Canes to convert 7 of 15 third downs, including a pair of 3rd-and-11's. Miami also gained 4.3 yards per rush, which was largely the result of Damien Berry's 42-yard run.

If the defense looked excellent it was only because of the four picks, and the 124 return yards off of those picks. Add those 124 yards to the Buckeyes' 801 yards of offense and kick/punt returns (essentially the same total as Miami), and that was the difference in the game.

EDIT: In the 2002 championship game, Ohio State surrendered only 492 all-purpose yards, 443 of which came in regulation and 49 of which came in the two overtime periods. That's a difference of 342 yards between the 2002 and the 2010 games (in regulation).

Dude's got skills - ya'll got a good one snappin'...

Take them two above shots, for example.
Good stop-action, lens is wide-open, but still got some good background.

Most amateurs would instinctively center the two players, but he has them offset down a little bit, kinda' like the "rule of thirds," so he was able to capture the 2 players, bench, and fans in the stands...

Keeping in minds it's moving action, and guessing @ 300mm he was at least 50-80 yards away, it's not very easy to get shots like that.

As a fellow shutterbug (not pro, though) I can appreciate what goes into getting a shot like that... exposure is excellent, white balance, colors are great, framing is excellent...

Dang - THAT'S classic!

Ya think they'd run out of her perfume!

Seconds shot is a classic - even the freaking RAINDROPS are frozen in time.

...I'm impressed... very nice work.

PM me if you're interested in trying medium format film + scan.
I can pass along what I'VE learned so far, and I think I have a 120 film folder you can borrow for a couple months, if'n ya promise to take care of it.

1950's Balda Baldix with f2.9/75mm lens in Prontor S shutter similar to this:
balda_baldix.jpg

Excellent shape, shutter goes up to 1/250 (1950's, remember?) shoots 12 6cm x 6cm shots on a roll of 120 film.

Totally agree. While I never really thought the game was in doubt after we took the lead, I don't know how you could ignore all the yards that Harris racked up before either he or his receiver did something boneheaded to ruin their chances. Now, you certainly can't ignore all the big play interceptions either, as that's all part of it, but this defense will have to play MUCH better if we are to win the big one.

Meanwhile, our offense still has fits and starts. It obvious that they are loaded with talent, but too many field goals and TP just didn't seem sharp (presumably the pressure). I don't doubt that it can/will come together, but again, they'll have to play better to win it all.

I believe they can, but there is tremendous improvement that can be made in all three phases of the game, not just special teams.

I think it's more in the middle of these two posts. The DL and LBs played quite well, especially considering the amount of holding that the refs allowed. Our secondary played well for the most part, but Chekwa got burnt twice and was lucky that Harris overthrew both times or else Miami has 14 more points. We also gave up a lot of stuff in the middle for first downs on relatively long yards-to-gain...that has to stop.

Our coverage teams, both punt and kickoff, are just fucking atrocious...Tressel has to be pulling his hair out behind the scenes. At the risk of jinxing us, this may come back to bite us in the ass huge during the season (i.e., cause a loss) if it isn't corrected. We've had two games, in which we've given up 31 total points, and 21 of those have come against our special teams. That sort of shit allows the opponent to hang around when they shouldn't. We were lucky against Marshall in that we simply have too much talent to let a breakdown hurt us. Against a team like Miami, we're very lucky that giving them essentially 14 free points didn't cost us the game.
