Metallica - Death is Not the End (new song, Live) + The Other New Song

The last album I really enjoyed was the the live album S&M they did with San Francisco Symphony. Pre-Black album Metallica rocks, I don't blame them for changing things up. I just never cared for most of their newer stuff.

Hmm, I wonder who else has new shit coming out?

I don't think that I'm a fan of the S&M stuff......according to me it's just NOT metal. But I agree that everything black and pre-black album was classic metal that rocked the music scene to the core.

However, I will listen to every album they release hoping that they rediscover the magic that was '80s Metallica.

S&M was enjoyable for what it was...an experiment.

They tried to go back to the 80's stuff with 'St. Anger' but failed miserably. Whoever came up with the idea of banging on overturned trashcans for an entire album should not be allowed near a studio again. I'll always love Metallica for what they did with their first 5 albums, but anybody hoping for a return to that Metallica needs to watch 'Some Kind of Monster' again. It ain't happening. These aren't the beer swilling, van travelling, headbanging madmen that made 'Master of Puppets', they're art collecting, mansion dwelling, champaign sipping, therapy going millionaires. Can't blame them, they're millionaires and they grew up. It happens to the best of us.

yeah but it wasnt that they did it and it sucked, its that they didnt do it. St Anger was nothing like the 80's stuff. It was just pure crap. Invisible Kid? That is the worse written song that I have ever heard. I just watched an interview with Hetfield about the new album, and he said "we tend to think too much instead of just writing what feels right, I dont know what changed between the older stuff and Load, Reload, St Anger, etc." I know what happened, they got older and cant do it like they used to, and that's fine. I personally just wish they would stop making music now

They weren't trying to revive the 80s Metallica, rather they were trying to sound more "modern" and "hard/hardcore" rock, like Slipknot (esp. the trashcan drumming).

I haven't listened to St. Anger since the first day I bought it, so it probably would be funny to listen to the crap songs again.

"we tend to think too much instead of just writing what feels right"

Yeah, and that's why the new shit sucks. It takes me years to make a complete new album, yet other artist can make them much, much faster. The longest the White Stripes have ever taken to record a new album is 6 weeks, for example.

I like the pre-black album better than the stuff made since. And St. Anger was the worst album by far. But I don't think people are being fair towards Metallica. They started the band in something like 1981, and first four albums were released by 1988. That's 20 years since that album was released, and 27 years since they formed. (I think that's just James and Lars - Kirk didn't join until 1983.) My point is that they've changed, as everyone does. Is anyone here the same as he was 20 years ago? Does anyone do things the same way? I've been at my job not even 8 years and I know I do things differently now. The guys went from having nothing, barely enough money to buy beer, barely able to afford to go from California to New York to record their first album, NOT being able to afford a plane ticket for the guy they kick out of the band, to guys who are married, and have children, and they feel that music is no longer #1 in their lives.

Maybe they changed to make the money. Maybe they were making money and that changed them. Who knows? I don't believe that money has anything to do with it, but I don't care, either. But they've changed. They will not release another Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning. If you want to listen to those albums, go out and buy Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning and listen to them.

And if you don't like the new album when it comes out, don't listen to it.

I agree about the recent albums, but Metallica is still Metallica. I have seen them five times. First show was with OZZY in 86 at the Ohio Center. and the Last show was at Buckeye Lake with the Cult. Everytime I have seen them Metallica puts on an excellent show.

And slipknot has gotten better as they've matured, at least in my book. Their new stuff sounds amazing. New album on the 26th. Cant wait.
