Men's Basketball Buckeye Tidbits 2007-08 Season

PG- Butler/Turner
SG- Butler/Turner
SF- Lighty
PF- Kosta
C- Hunter

I think Twig will back up C and Dallas and Madsen will fill in where needed.

Diebler is the first wing off the bench, and Wallace will come in and play SF/PF. I think that's everyone...

I agree with most everything you have posted but think that Madsen will be more a very contributor than people think. You will help both at the PF and C positions. Let's remember that he went against Oden every practice last year so I think he will contribute at the C position as well as PF.

I don't know. I can't say anything about Madsen until I see him in a game. Even with the freshmen, I've at least seen highlight tapes(Turner, Wallace, and Dallas) or I've seen them in person(Diebler and Kosta). Madsen is a complete unknown to me. I've never seen him in a game situation. I'm thinking Madsen will be the primary back up for Kosta and that Dallas will be the utility C/PF reserve, kind of like Hunter was for parts of last year.

Very deep roster this season for sure. I think Lighty might even see some time at the 2 gaurd with Butler at point, Diebler 3, and a combination of Hunter, Kosta, Dallas and Madsen underneath. I look for Hunter to be first team all Big10 this season.

I wish I was that optimistic. There are only 10 scholarship players and Lauderdale, Madsen and Wallace are still suspect, plus Twigs is a role player that doesn't fit in with Matta's style of play. Do you also think Hunter will average 15-20 points per game, because I think he will need that to be 1st team all-Big10.

I really don't see how you can call three of these guys "suspect". Granted two of them are freshmen but if you have watched any video on Wallace he has tremendous upside. Lauderdale is a little raw but I don't think TM is expecting big things out of him this year likewise with Wallace he has tremendous upside and will be a role player seeing limited times this year.

The one guy who I strongly disagree with you about being "suspect" is Madsen. This will be his third year in college and he went against Oden in practice all last year. He does not have tremendous athletic ability but is a smart ballplayer with good skills and a nice shout out to 18'.

Wallace is not an unknown to baskeball people......he will make an immediate impact next year....mark it down.

I guess my point was that I don't think it's a given that DL, KM or EW will get a lot of playing time so I think it's premature to say that this team is very deep. There is a possibilty that in tight games they only play a 7-man rotation. I don't see DL getting many minutes this season and Wallace wasn't overly impressive last season at Hargrave so I think it could go either way for him next year, thus suspect. The same goes for Madsen, he's been a practice player the last couple of years and I don't recall too many people saying "this Madsen kid is tearing it up in practice, wait until he gets in the games next season." I don't think you can use the logic that he went against Oden in practice so that is going to make him great. Twigs went against Oden last year also and he didn't have a breakout season. I do hope they all play great and there is a continual rotation of fresh players and everyone plays at the same level, but its too early to say that will happen.

From what I've read about Wallace, his lack of production at Hargrave had nothing to do with talent or him being raw.

I think he's the most likely of the three to contribute the most. At the very worst, one of those three should prove to be a viable back up their first season. I'm betting on Wallace. I think Madsen will be hurt by Koufus's production(he'll be first team all Big Ten IMO) since they appear to be similar players, and I think it will take a year for the coaching staff to get rid of Dallas's bad tendencies on defense(he leaves his feet more than he should and I think he'll have trouble with help defense) and to get him accustumed to getting the ball lower on the block.

Should we expect all three to be big contributors? Probably not, but it isn't unreasonable at all to expect one of those three to become a good fourth option in the post.

It is just my opinion but I think Lauderdale has some work to do before he makes an impact but his upside is huge. Madsen is a banger he will fill in here and there.....Wallace is the player who could possibly suprise. Out of the incoming players Koufos, Turner and Wallace will make an impact next year in my opinion.

Interesting that you have Lightly playing the SG with Turner at the SF. I know there's not much difference in Matta's but I would be interested in hearing your rationale behind that. I would have thought Turner was a better ball-handler since I can also see him playing some PG.

Madsen is my surprise player over Wallace.

Turner and Lighty are interchangeable. It is anyone's guess on which spots they will start in but those are the starting five. You could even switch Hunter and Koufos.

Agree but don't see Lighty playing any PG while Turner might see some time there.
