Masoli and other Ducks' legal issues

Word out here is that there's no chance. His locker has been cleaned out, and he's deciding whether he's going to even stay at the school on scholarship. He has a redshirt available (if he were to stay); but who's to say the job would be his again later.

When listening to the press conference, the emotion was that Jeremiah wouldn't be in a Duck uniform again. More than just the charge and conviction, apparently he lied to Chip. That's the mortal sin.

Yeah and if you believe that shit I have a bridge to sell you.

He lied to Chip Kelly the entire time prior to this. I doubt it.

yeah and he didn't get any jail time and he'll be able to use his community service in his plea to be reinstated.

When Chip Kelly realizes that his best chance to win is Jermiah Masoli, he'll be reinstated.

Am I the only one who thinks a redshirt should be revoked in a situation like this? What the hell is the university thinking by letting this kid stay on campus? He stole property from other students. I would bet a "normal" student would be shown the door.

I'm not sure how I feel/think about it. There was counsel between Coach Kelly and the Administration. It is what it is.

So Massoli gets suspended for the 2010 season (which means he will be back when they need him later in the year ala Blount when he was "suspended" for 2009) for stealing a couple of laptops and lying to Kelly about being there, and the courts see it fitting for community service and probation.

James gets a whopping one game suspension for allegedly beating a woman, but the courts saw fit to throw his ass in jail for 10 days.

Am I missing something here? Community service/Probation and CYA towards your coach and you get a full year (yeah right) off the team. BUT, you beat someone and get jail time, a one game suspension.

Stay classy Chip, you piece of [censored].:shake:

Yes, you are missing something. James got arrested, because by law, if someone touches another person in a domestic dispute; then they are going to jail. The charges may or may not change after the investigation; but the jail time happens regardless. Furthermore, he didn't "beat" the woman. The court memo has been released which explains in detail the experience. He's also taken full responsibility and apologized to the woman. To be honest, after hearing how the situation played out, I doubt that very many men would have operated differently.

With regards to Masoli, his punishment entails a past history, the existing event, the lying, and so on. The likelihood of Masoli playing again at Oregon is very low.

To each their own. I live here, and I'm immersed in the situation.

is it? they've got 2 other kids who aren't too shabby.

They have potential, but Masoli has the experience.

We will see what Kelly values - his discipline or the chances of a repeat PAC-10 title. I wouldn't be surprised that if Masoli "meets certain academic and team-oriented" goals throughout the off-season that he'll miss a game or two but be back by the time the Pac-10 schedule starts.

If it were me and it's not, but if it were, Masoli wouldn't have a scholarship anymore. The cynic in me says there's no way Oregon's QB is going to miss much significant game time.

I don't know about that...

See, Oregon doesn't have much in the way of Professional sports, they have the Trail Blazers, people here love their blazers, but when it was an arrest every time you turned on the news, and it got to a point where the community felt embarrassed instead of proud, they let it be known.

Right now that's what is happening here with the Ducks, people love their Ducks but they really want a team they can be proud of.

On top of that, the speculation is that he will transfer, I would assume so, since he needs the opportunity to show that he's better than the last time everyone saw him.

I guess you can count me among the crowd who think this kid will play for Oregon this year. I'm persuaded by the argument that Kelly will talk about his public service, status as a "changed young man who sees the light", and etc.
