Because Washington has had issues holding onto the football, he's very inconsistent from what people who could watch practice have said.
I know that from previous years. I'm being a bit facetious.

I'm just wondering where the heck Grant Schwartz came from that he's the third most targetted receiver on the team? Caught me by surprise. Almost as much as OSU throwing to the TE more than once in a game!

I know we're saving the FB handoff for the Michigan game ...

and a double WR reverse, pass by Posey to Pryor for the Miami gAME.

The insiders over on scout have been talking Grant up all spring/summer. They've been saying he's really come on. Might be a candidate for "break out Senior" we seem to have every year...

Very impressed with our backs. I know Berry was in for mop up duty, but I loved his "burst".

Other quick notes:
  • Liked Pryor's check downs. Decision making has improved, but he made about 2-3 bad decisions where he went back to his old ways. Nothing major and they didn't really hurt us.
  • Tyler Moeller is a fucking man. He played pretty much the entire game and look very good. Extremely fast, hits hard, and plays smart. Nobody is a better blitzer than Tyler, he times them perfectly.
  • Our defense looks very good, but I think we lack a solid back up rush end, which is why getting Nate back will be paramount to our DE success. He (Nate) was running around today in pregame and stuff so I think we'll get him back next week.
  • John Simon is not just ungodly strong, but he is pretty quick too. I think we are going to really really like John this year. He looks very tenacious and hungry on every play.
  • Grant Schwartz turned in a pretty nice game when he got in there. Liked that a lot. He's a gritty guy that has paid his dues for sure.
  • Didn't really get to focus much on the O line, but I like that other than the second or third drive of the game, we kept the 1's in there to help them continue to gel and condition.

Overall, I was very happy with the offense. Special teams needs some work, which I'm sure is one of the biggest concerns for this week. Also, I'm not comfortable with the secondary yet. CJ Barnett looked very young out there. Not bad, but not great, almost like he's still not in control of where he is supposed to be playing yet. We'll see how he progresses.

Things that stuck out in my head after watching live:

The best thing I saw from this team is the overall willingness to fight thru to the end of the play. Numerous examples: Sanzo running thru tackle to score. Saine dancing along the sideline and using his blockers (Posey and Sanz) to get last 15+ yds on his long run. Z. Boren every play. Boom every play. And my favorite: Johnny Simon stringing out a sweep all the way to the sideline, allowing Hines to clean up for no gain. The RB had a full step on Simon, but John kept close enough to keep him from cutting up. Impressive range for a DT.

I thought nearly every player had good plays, with just a few break downs to keep it from being ideal. Pryor, Saine, Boom, Posey, Sanzo, Homan, Rolle, and Hines all showed improvement in their already proven games. Stoney, Sweat, JHall, A. Homan, Berry, and Schwartz all looked plenty ready to contribute. Ty Moeller played lights out; impressive return to the game. Didn't notice Barnett much, but he looked comfortable out there. Philly Brown will be dangerous anytime he gets some daylight.

Both lines played very well at times, but I was expecting a bit more consistency. Run blocking was ineffective for stretches. I was expecting more penetration from D. Overall, OSU won the trenches for most of the game. Still not sure how Pryor gets sacked so often.

Special teams........yeah.

In all, not much to complain about, but some things that need to get fixed by next week. Marshall made some nice plays on D, and kept it up long after the game was decided. Lots of reps for backups, after early lead. Solid showing, bring on the 'canes.

my thoughts

I hate seeing points being given to the team by the special teams units. A frustrating ordeal if you ask me when a team is only down 14-7 even though it was total domination to that point. Once again kick coverage looked VERY shakey to me even besides the big return.

Offense- Looked Lethal. Thought Pryor looked very comfortable back there, and his release looks a lot better. What's crazy is that Pryor may be where Troy was as a senior as far as not wanting to take off when there's trouble. Hopefully Terrelle uses his legs a little more this year than today, but I thought Pryor was great. I know i'm in the minority here but I still wish Saine was a little more consistant with his running. It seems he's either a BIG gainer or a No gainer, but as long as he keeps ripping off 50+ yard runs I'll take it. Thought Boom looked quick, and Jordan Hall was VERY impressive. However, I thought in limited action that Berry showed that gear the other backs lack. I really thought/wished he would've got in the game in the 2nd quarter. Berry is going to be such a weapon and I think he would be a great back to plug in early in a game. Stoneburner was great, and it feels good to know we have a recieving tight end! WR's good but had a few drops. Oline pass pro was good and the run blocking wasn't bad neither! Corey Brown on his punt return looked REALLY fast. Almost Teddy type fast.

Defense- Once again i'll be in the minority here. Although the didn't score on the defense I was a little disappointed in some of our play on D. I thought we didn't tackle as well as we normally do, I thought if not for some drops for Marshall they would've had some chances to get some yards. I also think our Secondary, mainly Torrence/Barnett, is going to be cause for some concern this year. I know it was by design but I didn't think we got to the QB enough either, but I suppose that's expected when you lose a rush end like Williams. The quick passing attack really helped negate our team speed as far as getting to the QB, but I thought we did a nice job of stopping the run. A few times though their backs squirted through for a coule 10+ yard gains.

Hopefully we improve the kicking game, getting to the QB, and LOOKING for the football by our CB's. If we can get to Harris next week we'll win, but if we can't then it should be a good game.

I said that one way we're really gonna know how much better Pryor is is if he dominated tonight and he did. A couple bad decisions, but previously he had never really dominated anyone. Tonight he was on point and doing his thing. Night and Day from last year in my opinion. Kid just looks comfortable now and ready to blow up.

Pryor = G

RB's = sexy

Sanzo = fast white boy

Defense = nassssty.

Special teams = I want to cry.

Solid win, the offensive progress is incredible and I love how the first reception was Stoney. Time to beat the living hell out of Miami...

Very fun game to watch. O was very very good. D was so-so by tOSU standards. Not a whole lot of pass rush but I know a lot of that was due to Marshall's quick passing game. Secondary also needs to get better. That's mostly nitpicking. I think our O is going to be at a near '06-level and our D should be a lot better than '06. Looks like it's going to be a great year.

What was going on with the back-up LB's? Was Tony Jackson in before the other big names(Bell, Sabino, Klein, etc)?

Halfway thru second viewing. The D appears to be reading plays very well. They cue on to deceptive plays (play-action, option) before the snap on multiple occasions.

Pryor has expanded the areas of the field where he can pass effectively by a great deal. His passes over the middle on short to intermediate routes are flat (in a good way), zippy, and accurate. I haven't seen a throw under 20 yds that was in danger of being picked off.

If the O-line can get Saine a hole and a blocked LB, we will win a lot of games.

Just watched the Rolle pick 6. We have a ton of athletes on this squad.

Couple more things:

Props to Larimore. That dude doesn't get anywhere near the amount of hype he deserves. I'll take him over Terrance Cody any day.

Too bad we didn't get to see Guiton pass. I was hoping Tress would call one deep ball to Philly.

Special Teams - Yikes

Thought Checkwa played a poor game. Didn't seem to want to stick his hat in there at all.

Different alignments in the front. Simon at DE, Cam at DT etc...

Saftey position as pointed out was not strong at all, though I thought Hines made some good plays.

LB's in coverage looked shaky

Philly Brown is going to take one all the way this season. Great initial burst and appears to have good speed

Hankins is going to be a great one here

So happy to see Tyler being a total baller out there.

What is up with Rolle and openers taking picks to the house :)
