Game Thread Marshall at tOSU, Sat. Sep. 21, 12pm ET, FOX

Marshall beat reporter thinks we win 48-20.

So a team that needed a block punt to set up a 5 yard touchdown vs Tech (only scoring 14 total) is somehow going to get to 20 points against a far better defense?

I swear some people I wonder how they got their jobs
Homerism at its best for sure. But, then again, that's why they play the game.

Gotta pump a little sunshine for the locals.

Marshall's offense looks bad based off of the Va Tech game.

The QB was 13/36 passing and the run game was non existent pretty much outside of 1 69 yard run in the 3rd quarter

This was a Va Tech defense that gave up 34 points to Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt also had around 100 more yards of offense than Marshall did.

Three keys to victory for the Ohio State football team vs. Marshall

The Ohio State football team emerges out of the bye week to take on Marshall. Here are some keys for them to make sure they get the win.

After having one of the earliest bye weeks they've had in years, the Ohio State football team is ready to keep their season going. They are 2-0 after two very large blowouts of inferior teams. They look like one of the best teams in the country and look like the best team in the Big Ten.

In comes the Marshall Thundering Herd with a big upset on their mind. This is the same team that took down Notre Dame two years ago in South Bend, so they know what it takes to beat a good team on the road. It's something that Ryan Day has been emphasizing for the last couple of weeks.

On the surface, there's no reason why the Buckeyes should lose this game. They are clearly the more talented team, and they have better coaching too. They're much bigger, faster, and stronger than Marshall. But those teams don't always win these kinds of games.

There are three keys for the Ohio State Buckeyes to make sure that they walk out of the Shoe with the win that everyone expects them to get. If they are able to execute these three things, there's no reason that they should leave Saturday with a loss.

The first key has to do with staying sharp coming out of the bye week.

1. Ohio State must keep their strong level of sharpness they had in Week 2

2. The Ohio State football team must win the turnover battle

3. The Ohio State football team must be strong on the ground

Ohio State football vs. Marshall weather forecast

According to the Weather Channel, we are looking at another picture-perfect day on Saturday. It will be warm again and it will get warmer as the game goes on. When the game kicks off, the temperature will be about 80 degrees. When the game ends, it will be about 88 degrees.

It will also be perfectly sunny throughout the entire game. There is no precipitation in the forecast at all. That means the offense will have no problems moving the ball up and down the field. It won't be windy either as it will be 3-8 mph all day long with gusts going up to 12 mph.

Since I probably won't be on here before or during the game, I will give my prediction now. 51-7 Buckeyes. Marshall is really bad on both sides of the ball and our defense is going to overwhelm their offense. They gave up serious points to a mediocre VTech offense. Honestly this would be a bigger bloodbath than I predicted but you know we won't keep the foot on the gas after getting up by a lot and that is fine...we don't need style points, just get guys live reps to build depth after the game is in hand.

Really excited for the game though, have some hot wings ready to cook up and watching the game with my dad like God intended.

Remember When: Mike Nugent Kicked a 54-Yard Field Goal to Beat Marshall in the Closing Seconds While Santonio Holmes Put on a Career Performance

149052_h_0.jpg

Ohio State needed to spike the ball in the dying moments to set Nugent up for a 49-yard field goal. The Buckeye offense could not hurry back to the line of scrimmage quickly enough, and Zwick received the snap before all of OSU's players could get set, resulting in an illegal procedure penalty that pushed a potential field goal out to 54 yards.

Tirico introduced Nugent to the field as a senior team captain and Centerville, Ohio native ahead of figuratively and literally one of the biggest kicks in his college football career. Nugent lined up from the left hash and snuck the ball inside the left upright with room to spare to the roar of the Buckeye faithful and the declaration of Tirico as a hero on the national broadcast. Ohio State had prevailed with a 24-21 final score.

Shortly afterwards, "NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE" bellowed throughout the Horseshoe. The kick remains one of the most iconic field goals in the history of OSU football and served as the signature moment in Nugent's second All-American season that concluded with a Lou Groza award.
