Aaron Corp was the backup this year ahead of Mustain... he was the one who played against us when they took Sanchez out.sandgk;1381994; said:If Sanchez goes - Mustain takes the reins in all likelihood.
It will be a very close battle between the two this offseason, and they bring different skillsets to the table.Sportsbuck28;1382093; said:Aaron Corp was the backup this year ahead of Mustain... he was the one who played against us when they took Sanchez out.
I am well aware of this.Sportsbuck28;1382093; said:Aaron Corp was the backup this year ahead of Mustain... he was the one who played against us when they took Sanchez out.

Based on what he 2008 guys got, my guess is that the extra year in school (taking one dance class) only cost Leinart about $30M over his first 5 years, etc.
#1 Jake Long -5 years, $57.5 million ($30M guaranteed)
#10 Jarod Mayo - 5 years, $18.9 million ($13.8M guaranteed)

Alex Smith: 6 years, $49.5M ($24M guaranteed)
Matt Leinart: 6 years, $50.8M ($14M guaranteed)

Then Pete Carroll came to the microphones, and all I can say is "Wow!".
Pete clearly disagreed with the decision. He said that Sanchez was going 'against the grain', and things like he wouldn't be taking advantage of all the opportunities at USC, and that the NFL only has film of 16 starts for him, and that half the QBs that come out early aren't successful in the NFL. Pete said that players considering the NFL go through a process at USC, and that Sanchez was 'hammered' with information during the process. Pete also said he felt like he was a father to Sanchez. FYI, Mark isn't really leaving college early, he will have his degree before he plays in the NFL (he's been there for 4 years, the first of which was a redshirt).
I was stunned at how negative Carroll was, just moments after Sanchez announced his decision - what should be a joyous occasion for the Sanchez family had USC's coach throwing cold water on the proceedings. It was basically "good luck, but you're making a mistake".
In my opinion, that was a classless move by Carroll, and it appeared to me that Pete is really interested in having players stay at USC for the good of USC and Carroll, not in making the decision that's best for them.
Can you tell coach disagrees with the decision - WeAreSC ForumsBB73;1382604; said:I watched Sanchez's press conference. He looked like an ass. While he has Mark's best interests in mind, it sure didnt look sound like it to the uninformed viewer. I think it was a big mistake on his part.
Pete went on for some time about how you need to maximize the opportunities that you've been given, and in his opinion, Mark isn't doing that. He talked about Mark's limited starts, how the NFL wants to look at those things, how Mark is leaving them guessing as to how he can handle many things . . .
Pete CLEARLY did not agree with Mark's decision. IMHO, Pete looked a bit small.
Mark is back on TV again - he's taking questions from the media. Gotta go.
Nope. Not what I said.So you're saying that Pete should have just gone on the air and not speak on his feelings? Pete was honest with his assesment...that's why recruits come...that's why the program succeeds.
Pete supports Mark's decision, however, he does not agree with it...neither do his parents, brothers, or the former SC players that he mentioned. I for one respect Pete's candor.
Rule number one - always look gracious. Speak graciously even when you disagree. Pete made it clear that he disagreed with Mark's decision. He was honest - as you would expect him to be. But know when enough is enough. He carried that on, in my opinion, for 45 seconds too long, and in the end looked a bit ungracious.
I respect Pete's candor as well, but why make this the story? You know that the LA media is going to beat this to death now. In situations like this, the less you say is best.
no he explained how teams like to get information and mark wasnt giving them enough information, and how the failure rate is high, right after mark eloquently thanked everyone and said how appreciative he was for everything
also mentioning how if some people no longer consider him part of the trojan family like he somehow was under the impression he failed, it was not the time for that from carrol
theres really no other way to look at it
and has done so with a lot of late first round guys too, guys who will take an entire career to match the guaranteed money in Sanchez' rookie contract.ysubuck;1382619; said:Kind of a different message than the one JT gives his first round picks, huh? Tress practically packed Beanie's bags for him.
