ESPN.com said:USC QB Sanchez hopes to be healthy for opening game
LOS ANGELES -- USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, who dislocated his left kneecap and was carted off the practice field earlier this month, is feeling much better and hopes to be ready when the No. 3 Trojans open the season at Virginia on Aug. 30.
"I'm optimistic about it, we're ahead of schedule," Sanchez said after taking some drops, throwing some passes and doing a bit of light jogging Monday. "Everything today felt good. That's a good sign. If it were up to me, I'm playing. [But] I want to be ready for the whole season. It's a marathon, not a sprint."
Sanchez, the projected starter for Southern California, was injured Aug. 8 after making a throw and landing awkwardly. He was taken for X-rays and an MRI, and team doctors said there is no ligament, cartilage or bone damage.

Sanchez gets clearance to play, but throws interceptions in practice
LOS ANGELES -- On Tuesday, USC quarterback Mark Sanchez officially was cleared by doctors to play this weekend against Virginia.
That much reassured coach Pete Carroll. What did not was Sanchez's practice on Tuesday, when he threw two interceptions during the team's final scrimmage drill.
"There's some rust in there and we've got to hopefully get him clean by the weekend," Carroll said.

At U.S.C., a Quarterback Raised to Lead

LOS ANGELES ? Long before he became a quarterback at the University of Southern California, Mark Sanchez endured countless tests dreamed up by his father.
When Sanchez took batting practice as a teenager, as each pitch was about to arrive, his father would quiz him on the periodic table of the elements. While calculating the speed and location of a fastball, he was also attempting to recall the number for magnesium.
When he was younger, he would dribble a basketball while wearing glasses that would not allow him to look at the ball ? all the while facing rapid-fire questions on multiplication tables.
And when he would drop back to pass a football, to work on his touch by lobbing it over a goal post, he would also have to know who the 13th president was. Answer: Millard Fillmore.
This work was often done after practices, once the others had gone home.
?It was this time,? Sanchez said as dusk closed in after a recent U.S.C. football practice. ?Practice had just ended, and we wouldn?t leave until it was dark. My mom would be in the car, screaming from the parking lot that dinner is getting cold. I?d say: ?Nobody else is here. Let?s go home. This is crazy.? ?

USC's Mark Sanchez plans to announce Thursday that he will forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft, sources close to Sanchez and USC told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.
The announcement will occur at USC's Heritage Hall, and Pete Carroll is returning from a trip to Hawaii to be at Sanchez's side for the announcement. Sources say that Sanchez has been discouraged from turning pro by family members and that Carroll asked his quarterback to wait until Thursday's NFL deadline for underclassmen to allow for a change of heart. If Sanchez submits his paperwork to the NFL on Thursday, as expected, he would have four days to change his mind, as long as he does not enter into an agreement with an agent.
