As was plainly visible onscreen, Murray was asking whether to spike it, complete with hand gestures. That was on the coaches, who tried to get too cute in not allowing bama to adjust.

Also, I don't think Butt-head had anything to do with the Rose Bowl. Wilson waited a second too long to get the snap. There were 2 seconds, the ball was snapped with 1 second, and the ball hit the ground with 0 seconds. If it is snapped at 2 seconds, he has 1 remaining play with 1 second.
