Why should they? The OHSAA determined competitive balance based on the number of boys enrolled at a school. They fall well within the numbers for the division they're in.It’d be interesting to see them play the bigger schools. On one hand, idk how they would even keep up with Hoban, TCC. And then would they have the size and depth to face the GCL teams? It’d be a fun watch
Because there’s an obvious massive talent gap between them and their opponents. And it happens all the time anyway, it wouldn’t be a big deal for them to travel to the Dayton area and play Wayne, Springfield, Centerfield or CJ. I believe CHCA did that in Cincinnati when they were getting so dominant over the Division 6 teams. Why should they? Sorry, I meant scheme more so than talent. And I was exaggerating about playing a D1 team. But it’s no Longer even competitive in D7. And they have played teams in 6 and 5 yearly and also beat them, so why would it be a big deal to move them up at some point. Or have more consistent games against better competition. It also happens in basketball too where teams in lower divisions will play up. Idk how it’s safe beating teams by 5-6tds weekly. Throw in a D4 or D3 school on the schedule, it might actually be competitive. Or maybe they beat them also by 5tdsIt’s not a talent gap. It’s a system gap. It’s not like they have a boatload of college athletes they pump out.
And a D7 school playing a D1 school isn’t fair nor safe.
It sounds like some are in agreement with me. Let the kids play some big boys, that's not a punishment, its an honor. This team from BFE, is SO good, that they can beat some of the state's big boys. That's a real life Friday Night Lights type story“How can you ask some small farm-community high school to play Lakewood St. Ed,” Doug Blankenship wrote recently from southern Ohio. “And how can you play at all if it doesn’t make sense financially to spend that much (for travel)? The only solution is for a team that good to play better competition in their own area from bigger divisions.”
But Marion Local has played Chaminade-Julienne (Div. III), Wapakoneta (Div. III) and Franklin (Div. III) for the past decade, and on their way to a record 64 consecutive wins. And the outcomes were Marion Local, 8…Division III, 0.
And, without actually consulting Marion coach Tim Goodwin I think he would be willing to play the likes of Division II and III schools on I-75 – bigger schools who are feasible as future non-league opponents. But try and find one willing to playing Marion. Most contend that a loss to the Flyers is a risk in lost playoff points that they cannot afford to take.
This.If it's not a talent thing then why penalize them for being successful?
Why can't other D7 teams run better schemes?
