Malik McDowell (DL Cleveland Browns)

I think it makes a lot of sense for parents to want their children to get away (but not too far) from their hometown at the start of their adult life.

You learn how to take care of yourself and you get to choose new friends. New friends can be very important and beneficial if some of your old friends from your hometown aren't doing anything productive with their lives.

Also, from the sounds of it, they may want him to get away from his current circle of friends (moreso than just the state in general). If that's the case, it's excellent parenting. I wouldn't even care if he goes to FSU, but getting a kid out of a bad situation is always a positive.

I wouldn't say sending him to FSU would be much better than a Michigan school, could be worse. It's better if he winds up with the good guys in Ohio.

If his parents feel he's around the wrong crowd in Michigan (ie his current set of friends), then yes FSU would be better. But if it's more of getting him away from MSU because they're a "party school," then yea I would agree with you.

I certainly would love to have Malik onboard but I have a feeling his heart is going to win out and Sparty will get him.

In the end, that's really what a kid has to do, make their own way. Parents know he has to think more of his future so they're doing their jobs but I haven't heard him say anything to the contrary really.

Either way, I would rather have recruits in Columbus that really want to be here otherwise it might be a huge distraction for the team. If he wants to be here then he's certainly welcome and realistically has the best shot at being a solid draft pick when he's through.

His Pop want's him out of Michigan. Enter Larry Johnson Sr. Someone who who can act as his father when he's at college.
We have a great shot, here. Maybe this will be LJ's first big recruit here. But, honestly, I want Jamarco Jones more!
