Well, schon of a bisch...not unexpected actually, I think it was discussed last year or the year before that 2014 was going to be Lou's last year. At least Lou got to stick it to May a few times regarding tOSU before he left. Not sure who they will get to replace him and Reece Davis. I imagine they'll still need some sort of team in the studio, but who will be the Ying to Mark May's shitty Yang?

With Rece Davis (whom I have always liked) taking Fowlers spot on the Game Day road show, and Holtz retiring, it'll be interesting to see what ESPN does with the studio show this season replacing everybody but Mark May. What may be most perplexing is why they've allowed the studio show to be so bad for so long. They'd never allow such blatant bias, vitriol, or "embraced debate" on NFL Countdown. Never understood why it was allowed to fester on the college football studio show for 12+ years. Sean Salisbury was axed years ago for the Mark May act ...

That kind of style is common on other ESPiN shows though. If it's getting ratings, they don't care.
As for NFL... I imagine if all they did was smack talk, teams and players would be much less likely to give them interviews etc.
With college teams that threat isn't very serious. Schools have to play the recruiting game, while NFL drafts and pays money for players. Schools want to get their name brand out there across the country to attract students, while most NFL teams are aware that they're strictly a local sensation. The Patriots probably aren't very concerned with what people in Denver think about them and vice versa.
But many of the big Universities (incl Ohio State... but also think schools like Texas and USC) that are ever-present in college athletics have a national reputation and standards.

Part of me is hoping this is actually an indicator that May is done... we're just hearing about Holtz retiring first. That's probably just wishful thinking though.

I'll actually miss Lou, he was one of the few ESPN guys that wasn't consistantly "anti Ohio State"
