I frequently see Louisiana cars in New Mexico, so it would seem to be not too bad a drive. And the snow in the lower Rockies is that nice, fluffy stuff rather than the Ohio/Midwest ice/ heavy stuff. There are even southern New Mexico ski areas and mountains with snow.

unfortunately, I have never done any of the above.

Damn straight. I for one LOVE the seasons. Autumn foliage, spring flowers, and nothing beats cold weather for the holidays. Yeah, the days towards the end of Feb can get tough sometimes, but some of my best memories have been sitting fireside with family and friends, sipping a Scotch watching the snow come down.

Given my new house purchase in rural Pa, I have made a commensurate modification to my mode of transport. I just bought a set of Blizzaks (and rims) for my VW and threw them on last Sat. Snow travel in a car is all about the tires, and I bought the best set I could find. Now I have a snow Panzer.... :tongue2:

Its worth mentioning that a gent who owns my same model Porsche in Boston says he puts snow tires on his and its the best car in the snow he's ever driven (4-wheel drive and all). That said, you have a better chance of Jim Tressel singing "Hail to the Victors" in the middle of the "O" on the 50 at half time of an OSU-UM game than me driving my baby through a winter of NE road salt..... :)

As long as you live somewhere that the snow lingers, the winter season is beautiful. If you are an unlucky sap oppressed by wintry mix, melting snow and generally gray/brown winters, that's another story.

and it makes the 50-60 degree outliers that much more enjoyable in the winter, which naturally leads into making spring that much more beautiful.

Amen. Took a freaking Escape Hybrid (read: small engine, 2wd) up and down a mountain in a bonafide blizzard... not a problem at all with chains on the wheels. Of course, I still went out and got a better 4WD, so I won't need the damn chains next time
