Amen. Took a freaking Escape Hybrid (read: small engine, 2wd) up and down a mountain in a bonafide blizzard... not a problem at all with chains on the wheels. Of course, I still went out and got a better 4WD, so I won't need the damn chains next time

Wow.

Yeah.

At least you learned your lesson, I guess.

(and NYB - and once you go Blizzak, you'll never go back... err... something like that)

Damn straight. I for one LOVE the seasons. Autumn foliage, spring flowers, and nothing beats cold weather for the holidays. Yeah, the days towards the end of Feb can get tough sometimes, but some of my best memories have been sitting fireside with family and friends, sipping a Scotch watching the snow come down.

Given my new house purchase in rural Pa, I have made a commensurate modification to my mode of transport. I just bought a set of Blizzaks (and rims) for my VW and threw them on last Sat. Snow travel in a car is all about the tires, and I bought the best set I could find. Now I have a snow Panzer.... :tongue2:

Its worth mentioning that a gent who owns my same model Porsche in Boston says he puts snow tires on his and its the best car in the snow he's ever driven (4-wheel drive and all). That said, you have a better chance of Jim Tressel singing "Hail to the Victors" in the middle of the "O" on the 50 at half time of an OSU-UM game than me driving my baby through a winter of NE road salt..... :)

If it truly is your baby, treat it to a coat of Fluid Film. I just traded in an 07 with nary a speck of rust. We get tons of salt around here, and a yearly coating made a huge difference.

Blizzaks are great for snow and ice; they handle like they're full of snakes when the roads are dry and hot, though.

Fify, and yeah, that's why the are called "winter" tires.

They handle like they're full of snakes, hot or cold. But you got no choice when it's cold and snowy. They do stick to snow and ice like it's regular pavement, though, I have to admit.

Well, the snakes are extra slippery when its hot... but, yes... again, they are for the winter.

If anyone is moving someplace where they'll be seeing lots of snow look into Nokian tires (WRG2 or Hakkapaelitta R). They are THE snow tire company, nobody else comes close.

Hmm, and who owns them?

It's a Finnish company. Was part of the original Nokia merger but later spun off as a separate company years ago.

Nokian Tyres literally means means Nokia's Tires.

In Sweden winter tires are required by law & Nokian dominates.

Bridgestone bought a big hunk of it not long ago.

And, well, you may now shun me for wearing Bridgestones on my Saab in the Winter. Have a nice day.

I have never heard of these snake tires, but now I really want some.

Well, snow found me, no looking necessary. My niece and nephew spent the morning reading and carrying on conversations well above their grade levels, and the afternoon piling snow on top of the back bumper of their van... so it would be stuck... and they wouldn't have to go home.

These are definitely my brother's mini-mes. :p
