Why has the NFL scouting combine, where teams analyze how much players can lift and how fast they can run, become such a big deal?
Here's why: More than $300 million has been spent on the signing bonuses for the first-round picks of the past three drafts alone.
SPEED SELLS: In addition to counting the number of times a prospect can bench-press 225 pounds, teams will time players in the 40-yard dash.

NFL Combine Schedule

The NFL scouting combine begins today with offensive linemen, tight ends, kickers and punters arriving in Indianapolis. They'll register, attend an orientation, take x-rays, and interview with select teams.

The main action begins this Saturday when these first day arrivals hit the field for workouts. QB, WR, and RB workout on Sunday, DL and LB on Monday, and DB on Tuesday. The full schedule is available on the official NFL combine site.

UPDATE from the NFL Combine

Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn will not work out at the NFL combine, instead choosing to save his workout for the Notre Dame pro day on March 4th. This after Quinn also chose not to participate in the Senior Bowl.

One player who will participate in the combine is Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson who missed much of this season with a broken collar bone.

What a puss. Hopefully just gives the Browns more reason not to look at him at 3 or 4.
