Looking Ahead To The Combine......2007

NFLDC
? The initial wide receiver results are in and they're impressive. Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson opted to run and he was everything we thought he'd be, clocking an official 4.35 at 6-5 and 239 lbs. The real surprise however was Washington State's Jason Hill, who many thought lacked top speed but came through with an amazing 4.32!

Leon Hall is looking forward to proving the doubters wrong on tuesday.

I just read that Troy will not run at the combine, although he will throw. Was interested in seeing how he ran in the 40. Assuming he will wait and run at the Pro Day like Teddy. From what I hear about the track at tOSU being fast, can't blame him. Hope he has an impressive work out.

Just heard on ESPIN that Joe Thomas did 28 reps on the 225 Bench Press and as said in this thread previously, ran two different 40's in the 4.9's. Very impressive by most accounts. Most were surprised that he even took part in the work outs. I am starting to get more and more on his bandwagon. I realize that the Lions are probably going to grab him at #2, but if there were a way that he dropped to us at #3, I would be happy.

28 for an ol is not very impressive, especially considering Quinn put up 24. I'd expect the clear#1 ol to at least put up mid 30's

Nice 40 time by Olsen, but Miller beat him in the shuttle and jump (?).

Various Combine Results

Calvin Johnson off the charts to the good... 6-5 235 runs a 4.35

Gary Russell (Minny) of the charts to the bad....at 229 lbs ....4.8 and 9 reps of 225 ...clarett like performance....ouch

Buckeyes
David patterson at 285 ...ran a 5.07 and did 21 reps...disappointing
Quinn Pitcock 299lbs didn't work out
D. Datish 302lbs....31 reps...nothing to be ashamed of
Gonzo 193 lbs...4.44 38inch vertical ...good stuff... i thought his 40 would be better though
Pittman 4.4 and 16 reps....faster than i thought
Troy Smith.225 lbs ..didn't work out

others of note

Paul Pluczuzny (sp) only ran a 4.67
Prescott Burgess 240 lbs....4.85...19 reps
jared Zabransky 6'2 219 lbs 4.53....4.08 3 cone drill...nice #s for a QB... might have workedout at WR too
Brian Leonard (rutgers RB) 235lbs...ran a 4.49 not too shabby

Run Linebackers Run
• The linebackers took the field at the Combine and the top two forties were turned in by Antwan Barnes of Florida International (4.40), Quincy Black of New Mexico (4.42) and Tim Shaw of Penn St. (4.43). Some other notables were Lawrence Timmons of Florida St. with a somewhat disappointing unofficial 4.59, Jon Beason of Miami (FL) at 4.64, Paul Posluszny of Penn St. at 4.67 and Patrick Willis of Ole Miss with a 4.49 time. A couple other surprises were Florida's Earl Everett only turning in a 4.8 while David Harris of Michigan was faster than expected at 4.53.

D-Linemen Docket
• The defensive linemen were scheduled to run today and two of them secured their spots in the Top 10 overall picks. Clemson DE Gaines Adams clocked an impressive 4.64 official time and could very easily be the first player chosen at his position. Meanwhile, Michigan DT Alan Branch turned in an impressive 5.04 unofficial time, which is even more spectacular when you consider the big guy weighs 325 lbs. Needless to say both guys did nothing to hurt themselves and will both come off the board very early on April 28.
