I'm not old enough to remember, and I know the situation was different because of a lack of the BCS, but did Ohio State fans bitch and complain like this after our late season losses to tSUN. I mean, we've lost to them in the last game of the year when we were undefeated MULTIPLE times and I have a hard time believing we acted like this. Maybe they're just not used to it which is why their fan base is being so pathetically whiny about it.
Not that I can remember because, as you said, the situation was different. Then it was win and you're in the Rose Bowl. Lose and you have no leg to stand on.

I think one of the things that magnifies the whining is the internet... everyone now has a forum to weigh their opinions which can be seen worldwide, no matter how idiotic they are... small matters are made large because people/fan bases with axes to grind take every little thing and run with them to make the opposition look bad... such is our society today.

Now, back to the topic: Voyd, quit your whining, win your bowl game and come back next year so the Bucks can smack you again! 42-39!

First of all, brilliant move on Tressel's part. I can't really blame Carr for being upset, but with that being said I think that Michigan had their shot and didn't convert.

I will say this though. The high respect that I had for Urban Meyer over the past few years has fallen like Gary Busey after an all night bender. The way that he desperately lobbied the nation was kind of a joke. Hopefully now Meyer will shut the hell up and coach some football.

Time OUT!

OK, punt team!

On the "did OSU do this" issue.. the closest I can think of is 1996 when OSU ended #2 to a one loss Florida (OSU had one loss (to Michigan)). But, going in to that bowl season, OSU was 4th, playing #2 ASU. Florida was 3, playing #1 Flast. So.. But, even then, I don't recall people bitching and moaning.

Actually, the CLOSEST I can think of was 1998. First year of the BCS. In 1998 Ohio State was in the position to 'back in to the title game' and missed out by a hair. I think people will agree that the 1998 OSU team was the best in the country that year, and probably would have beaten Tenny (Well, OK I doubt everyone would agree...) Anyway, when OSU didn't get it, I don't recall much pissing and moaning then either... more of a "DAMMIT, just missed" kinda attitude.

On the other hand, there weren't message boards back then... or if there were, they weren't like they are today in terms of popularity.

I don't think there was ever a situation where a re-match would have benefited us a tSUN has never been in the BCS Championship Game. The 2 years that stand out to me were '96 and '98. '96 a one loss UF team won the NC in a re-match against FSU and we beat undefeated ASU and ended up #2. I don't remember much whinning, but I remember thinking it was pretty crappy that we didn't get a shot at a split title. '98 FSU also had a loss to a crappy team that happened earlier in the year than our loss to MSU (we beat scUM that year). Again, I was pissed that FSU got the shot at Tennessee because I firmly believed that FSU was overrated for years. Again, I don't remember much whinning from Buckeye fans, I think we were too busy bitching about Cooper. It was more, "god, if we hadn't lost that game" than "we deserve it more than they do."

Well did anyone see ESPN late Sunday night about they could revoke Tressels privledges in voting since he chose not to vote? This was on Sportsc enter about 1:00 A.M.!
He felt he was very smart to not vote I guess it was between him & Gene Smith on that decision to not vote & now he's getting burned at the stake for it? horsecrap! I'm sure the biggest whining had to be Carr,a guess on my part!

If scUM's "big victory" this year is to get Tressel kicked off the poll, I'll take it along along with that crystal football.

it's not fair & I bet won't work! Meyer said he even empathized with Tressel on the voting issue! It probably in reality won't happen to Tressel,my god look what the man has accomplished! He's so tactful in public as unlike Llllloyd!
Yeah~ I'll go with that & the Crystal Football!
Wow! just imagine the scUm game next year!

Colin Cowherd is going off on Michigan and Lloyd.

Said Tress did the right thing by not voting.

He compared Lloyd's recent 2-9 record in Big Games to Urban Meyer's 12-0 record.

Fortunately for Urban, none of those 12 was against Ohio State.

Nevertheless, it's a good point and a good argument for Florida as far as it goes.

Uh oh. Colin Cowherd is making sense??

I agree. He votes Michigan #2, he's making bulletin-board material for Florida. "Tressel doesn't think we even BELONG in this game!" If he votes Florida #2, he's bitch-slapping his conference. This is one reason that I don't think that coaches' poll should be made public. Not even to their own teams. Does Urban Meyer get a vote? Did he vote Ohio State #1? How is his team supposed to think if he votes Ohio State over them? What about good ol' Lloyd? Did he pick Ohio State over Michigan? What message is he sending his team?

If I heard any whining by Lloyd, it was about Urban Meyer's supposed "polliticking." I don't know anything about Urban Meyer "polliticking," but I know that it's happened in the past, and I think it sucks. If it's true that he pleaded with voters to get moved up in the rankings, he is a total hypocrite for blasting the BCS system. He says they should settle it on the field (with a playoff), but then he goes and plays his off-the-field game.

I agree (somewhat) that the BCS system needs to be tweaked (there's a thread, somewhere, that I posted my ideas), but Meyer is showing no class with his polliticking (again, that's IF he's polliticking). Lloyd Carr is right for whining about that.

Let's put the shoe on the other foot.

If tOSU would have lost to TSUN and the scheduled played out this same way, it would still be Florida vs TSUN.

Since the beginning of the football polls, if a team is going to lose, it's been proven they are much better off losing early in the season.

Now whether TSUN is better than Florida, who the hell knows?

I heard this on the radio here in Cincinnati this morning. A scUM fan stated that LLLLloyd said that scUM is going to begin scheduling it's 12th game (final non-conference game) two weeks after The Game in order to avoid this type of situation in the future and to have a bye week. I did a quick google and couldn't find anything about this. I'm taking it with a grain of salt as you know how those scUMers lie. This would truly suck if they are really planning to do this.

Good tactical move for him, but not for a player who wants to be top-of-form for the draft. If I were a Manningham, Henne, Breaston or Hart, would I want that additional game or simply to exit the season with a bowl win and no extra risk of injury? (Caveat: Carpenter's injury didn't hurt him too bad, so it may well be worth the risk to a player with solid NFL prospects.)

It's not an extra game. The discussion was that since CFB went to a 12 game schedule this year, the Big 10 teams no longer have a bye week built in. [tOSU filled in by playing BGSU this year]. scUM would be moving a non-conference game to the end of the year, 2 weeks after The Game. The purpose would be two fold, to gain a bye week during the Big 10 season and to have a game left at the end to impress pollsters if need be.

I tend to think this was the typical reactionary stuff that you hear after something like this happens. However, I don't know where the scUM fan got his info from because he seemed to be speaking as if he had heard LLLLLoyd quoted as saying this would be in the works.

If Llllloyd wanted to be slick, why didn't HE vote scUM #1 over OSU? (by the way, didhe vote in the coaches poll?)

I mean, if he really believes in his team, and thinks they would beat Ohio State, and therefore be ranked #1, what was to stop him from voting scUM #1??

also, Urban Meyer didn't just say that he empathized with Tressel, he said that he did the same thing last year --- did not vote in the poll because of conflict. At least, some article I read reported that.

Up here in TSUN, even casual scUM fans are whining about it today and I'm telling them they are just suffering from Tressel-envy.

If they whip USC and Ohio State whips Florida, then once again, they will have reclaimed their #2 ranking (which is right where we want 'em).

Final poll January 9th: #1 OSU
#2: scUM
#5: Wisky.

Go Big Ten!
