I'm floored. I think we need some changes on our offensive staff. But I agree with this assessment, and thought before the season that our Rose Bowl or Bust was a little steep. Not for the players, but for the fans. Most elite teams think they're gonna go all the way every year, and how easy it is to see their flaws and explain away our own with new fixes every offseason.

Well like I said in another thread this team had the capabilities to make it to the nc, but the ball just hasnt bounced our way this year. Any one remember when Nebraska won a game whe the ball was kicked off a guys foot and caught in the endzone for a td. Someimes the ball bounces your way sometimes it doesnt.

The offensive line not getting a good push has been a problem for two seasons now. I am not sure if it is a lack of attitude or if we need to do a better job of recruiting. Smash mouth offensive line play has been a trade mark of Ohio State football for a very long time and we need to get back to that.

I think a lot of the problem is that everyone went apeshit after 2002, because that wasn't a season going in that a whole lot of people were realistically thinking NC. After that, some "fans" see a lot of talent, and just don't understand how hard it is to go through a grueling season and beat everyone, EVERYONE, on your schedule. Hell, these kids get banged up and have a hard time waling during the week, and then everyone expects them to go out and play perfectly 13 straight times against teams just as hungry and often as much or nearly as much talent-wise as they are. 2002 produced a lot of unrealistic expectations, and now everyone al of a sudden expects 5 national championships a decade...it just ain't going to happen folks, and if you implode when a team goes 9-2, I suggest you find a different hobby.

Hey, look at last year. As long as we beat some northern team whose name escapes me and win a bowl game we've had a good season and everybody expects a national title the next year.

Fuck it, at least we aren't coming off a couple of losing seasons like PSU. Things are still wide open in the big ten. PSu is in the drivers seat but they've got a tough schedule. All we can do is cheer our guys on and see where everything winds up in late November.:osu:

I am over the loss. I was over it 5 minutes after the game. As Sam Wyche once said "There is golf to be played and tennis to be served." They didn't get it done tonight, I am okay with that. But posting my opinion about the short comings of the team does not indicate an inability to get over a loss. Nor does my opinion give you an excuse for acting like a jerk. If you disagree with my tell me why and we can debate the issue like adults rather than hurling insults at one another.

This team is loaded with talent. We just happen to play in a very tough conference and have some issues when facing speedy defenses. I for one am far from imploding. If I didn't implode when we lost to Michigan State in 1998 I don't think I am in any danger of doing so in the near future. (Being a Bengals fan kinda toughened me up over the years)

3- There were plenty of times in 2002 when we weren't exactly lighting up other teams offensively, running the ball or otherwise...we just got a few good breaks and made some huge, huge clutch plays then, and we haven't done that this year.

4- The 2002 offensive line was also maligned by some at the time, but several players have stuck (and some are starting) on NFL rosters, so I guess Tressel has the capability of producing some good linemen. Are these guys that good? I don't know, but it isn't because the coaching staff ignores the development of the line.

EDIT: Just caught your last post...is the line great? No, certainly not, but Mangold is a beast, and if we don't lose our starting tackle early, we might have been a lot better. If anything, it's too bad we didn't have a capable backup tackle, so that we could have left Sims at guard, but that's what happens sometimes. The line is not great, but adequate to be scoring more points and gaining more yards than we are.

I am not whining about dings. I just think that differing opinions are a good thing on a message board and trying to stifle them through dinging is kind of pathetic. I know it wasn't you that dinged me, but the point is a valid one.

As for the offensive line, they hold their own at times, but when is the last time we had a dominant performance by our offensive line? The level of play has declined steadily up front for several seasons. The 2002 line was not great, but they got the job done when it counted. With the exception of Mangold this offensive line has been our achilles heel.

Don't get me wrong, I love what Tressel has done here. We have great skill players and the best defense in college football. We have a top ten class of recruits every year, but without a smash mouth offensive line we will lose one or two games a year to speedy defenses.

Look at our NC season, we ran the ball with authority. We ran at and over teams because our line was able to get a push. Imagine what this team could do with just a good offensive line.

BTW, if you disagree with me fine, I love a good debate. I will not give you bad reputation points simply because I disagree with your view points. I hope in the future to get the same kind of treatment.

What you thought you saw from the O line in 2002 was mostly based on the talents of M. Clarett.

Remember with the same line coming back in 2003, the running game was a shell of itself without the imfamous #13.
