Russell Shepherd suspended for violation of NCAA Rules - allegedly talked to team mate about upcoming NCAA inquiry.

UPDATE: How many more games Shepard will miss now depends upon a ruling by the NCAA, according to the following release from LSU later Thursday:
LSU wide receiver Russell Shepard has been declared ineligible by LSU for violation of an NCAA rule, it was announced Thursday.
LSU will seek reinstatement for Shepard but he is expected to miss a number of games until the reinstatement can be considered by the NCAA. He can continue to practice with the team.
Shepard has been found by the NCAA and LSU to be in violation of Bylaw 32.1.4. Shepard was determined to have discussed an NCAA inquiry with a teammate who was scheduled to meet with an NCAA representative and his actions were deemed to have violated NCAA protocol.
No timeline has been determined for the reinstatement process.

It says, in part, that the Marine is not one of the 4 people who ended up at the hospital and that he refused medical treatment.

Eyewitness states that Jefferson was the one who kicked the Marine in the head, but it appears that he is not one of the 4 pressing charges.

Of the 4, one reportedly suffered three fractured vertebrae; one was reportedly knocked unconscious with contusions to the head, nose and hands; and two others suffered cuts and bruises.

If it's true that Jefferson kicked Lowery (the marine) in the head area, that's probably better for Jefferson than if he had kicked the person who ended up with 3 cracked vertebrae, who is presumably one of the folks that wants to press charges. Because that would've sounded like a pending civil suit that could make Ubet willing to make a few 80-mile drives. :wink2:

Gun pointed at LSU players in June 5 altercation

As it turns out, the now-infamous melee in the Shady's parking lot isn't the only fight LSU's players have been involved in this summer. But at least Les Miles can say this: this time, it's someone else facing criminal charges.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, the local district attorney will be pursuing charges against a pair of men involved in a June 5 altercation with Tiger defensive end Sam Montgomery and quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Though those are the only two players named in the report, other players were believed present and are expected to be witnesses in the case.

The police report from the incident states that Montgomery and a man named Robert Davis were fighting in the parking lot of a Baton Rouge apartment complex when Davis associate Marcus Adams pulled a gun and pointed it at Montgomery. When Mettenberger attempted to intervene, Adams pointed the gun at him as well. Per the DA, Adams and Davis will be facing the only charges filed as a result of the incident.

paints a much different picture than what we've heard so far.

Neldare said he ran to the co-worker and corralled him away from the brawl, back toward the bar entrance, where he then noticed Jefferson, standing by himself and looking upset while the fight was still taking place.

that's actually quite believable considering that's how he usually looks during games too :slappy:

now is the part where y'all say something to effect of "well of course a bar owner in Baton Rouge is going to defend LSU players."

i'm to the point of no longer caring.
this investigation is dragging on way longer than it needs to.
either arrest someone, or clear them of charges.
we got a game to worry about. let's just get this mess over with. no matter what the outcome.

I was going to say something about "of course ESPN paints a positive perception on the events for a starting quarterback on one of the SEC favorites," but to each his own.:wink2:
