Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

Cavs have a shot, but I think they would have to trade for Kevin Love on Thursday night to get a shot at it otherwise, he will not be coming to Cleveland this year. This is a move to put a ton of pressure on Pat Riley and the Heat to makes some serious moves. I see him taking a one year deal to return to Miami, unless he tries to team up with Melo somewhere.

I can't see him teaming with Marshmelo anywhere. Marshmelo is allergic to defense and I don't see his playing style as complimentary to LeBron's in any way. Unless he could suddenly learn to play defense, something you need to win titles, I think LeBron would see him as more of a hinderance to more titles.

Defense, or lack thereof, might be another strike against the Cavs.

I disagree. Winning cures all in a large majority of fans' eyes. Cleveland fans are starving for any kind of success, and LeBron returning makes the Cavs instant contenders. The first time he set foot on the floor in Cleveland in a Cavs uniform, the cheers would be enormous. Does that make us hypocrites? Of course. But if he's leading them to 60 wins and the postseason again, he'll be a hero. Of course, the championship expectations would be immediate, and I could see them getting impatient pretty quickly of they aren't winning them. I don't like the bastard, and I never will view him the same as I did before he showed his ass on e!spn 4 years ago, but returning to Cleveland to win a title is a step towards redemption.

Still, don't see it happening. Howevah, I will say, he had until July 1 to opt out. The timing a few days before the draft is interesting.
IMO, he'd had to make a big public apology (albeit as shallow as it would really be) to the Cleveland fans before he'd have any chance of being accepted back. NE-Ohioans are grudge-holding mother fuckers...I should know because I am one.

I think Gilbert is going to be pushing Griffin to be very aggressive on Thursday night, I literally think as far as trades go for the Cavs anything could happen. Cavs have a lot of assets to use and I think Gilbert sees this as his one shot to get Lebron back. So we will see, Thursday night could be very telling, so will whether Bosh and Wade opt out or not.

I think some sort of mea-culpa would be part of a press conference. LeBron has become much more media-savvy since his 2010 series of debacles.

It's all a red herring, anyway. He's re-upping in Miami for at least another year. I think this is his way of putting the onus on Riley/the Heat to show they have a plan for improving a rapidly declining roster.

The problem for Miami is going to be that they really need to get under luxury tax next year so they don't hit the repeat offender tax, which doesn't help the rebuilding process. They were 21 mil over the cap (8 over the luxury tax) this year so try to convince Lebron that it's in his best interest to take less money this year so they can get under the cap and spend next year. Biggest problem is that they need to get Wade to opt out so that he can make less money over the rest of his career than he is set to make over the next 2 years. Don't see that happening. Best bet would be to let Wade walk resign Lebron and Bosh for slightly less money so that they can bring in some help this year. I'm pretty sure Bird rights count against the cap so it isn't like opting out gets the Heat anywhere unless they renounce the Bird rights. If the Heat continue what they've been doing their luxury tax bill will likely be around $50 mil next year.
