Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

They do count against the cap, but there's a loop-hole allowing you to exceed the salary-cap with minimum contract players. Again, a veteran minimum is far different than a rookie or second year player...

As an FYI:

First year in league - Minimum is 490k
5 years in the league - Minimum is 1M
10 years - Minium is 1.4M

But Miami could sign some veteran NBA players with some game, and just pay the minimum if they're willing to play for a championship, and they'd be able to exceed the cap as long as those veterans accepted the minimum.
so for layperson unfamiliar with the cba and the situation the heat is in, the min k's dont count against the cap.

he'll be looked upon as someone who couldn't get it done himself and had to pair up with a couple of the other best players in the NBA at the time in order to get over the hump. He won't be a Michael Jordan. He'll be a Paul Pierce.

Basketball is a team sport.

It is rare to see a team win a title with only one top 10 player. Oustide of the Pistons and Spurs over the last 20 years, no team has won a title without at least 2 top players in the league.

He won't be a Michael Jordan. He'll be a Paul Pierce.

Loyalty likely to?sway?LeBron James to remain with Cavs in '10 - Ian Thomsen - SI.com

? Imagine the celebration. Maybe my point of view is all wrong, because I surely am going against popular opinion by predicting that James will remain in Cleveland. Of course, there is a possibility that he will decide to leave. But I think something horrible must happen to drive him away from the Cavaliers, whether it's a collapse of his relationships with ownership, management or teammates. And I don't see that happening.
The Cavaliers have been advised that the value of the franchise would plummet by more than $100 million -- $150 million was one figure I've heard -- if James were to leave Cleveland. That's why they've created an environment designed to hold onto him. They've built a new practice facility while steadily improving the roster around him, and if they need to make another trade at the February deadline to further space the floor around James and O'Neal, then they'll surely pursue it.
I bet James already has the entire recruiting process planned out. He'll listen to the Knicks, the Nets and anyone else who wishes to speak with him. Then he'll hold a news conference on live TV and announce that he is staying with Cleveland. It will be the professional version of national signing day, when the top high school recruit announces the college of his choice.
But it will be much bigger than that. An entire city will rejoice, and its people will speak of how proud they are of their LeBron James. Casual fans who would have booed him for going to New York will now be cheering for him because he stayed in Cleveland. By showing loyalty to his hometown, he'll have a chance to become a bigger force than he could have been on the world's greatest stage. He'll be the NBA's Family Guy.

Let me play a little devil's advocate here...

Isn't it just possible that we, the fans, have created this circus? Sure, ESPN acts like a tabloid network now but they're only catering to the demands of the audience. Lebron, for his part, has essentially avoided the spotlight; forced teams to come to him to make their pitch; and has purposely refrained from any public comment on this free agency, other than the King interview.

This announcement appears to be a benign attempt to capitalize on the hoopla for the benefit of (gasp) charity. And if he ultimately decides for Miami, isn't he humbly admitting that he can't do it on his own? Wouldn't he be selflessly be taking less money to play with his friends to try and win a champioship(s)?

I have roasted this guy more than anybody here, and sometimes for good reason. He did dog Game 5. He did disrespect Tom Izzo. But I must admit that much of my angst is directed more for the realization that the fate of Cleveland sports hangs in the balance. If we can't hold onto the hometown star with more money to offer and the best record in basketball, then how are we ever going to win a title at anything? I realize now, though, that Lebron doesn't care about that. And, really, why should he?

There's more where that came from:

My sources say that while Stuart Scott was tapped to host Lebron's "The Decision" show tomorrow night, he had his eye on something else. 4:04 PM Jul 7th via UberTwitter
My sources say Lebron cannot decide between Miami or Cleveland and will have Jose Mesa pitch to Edgar Renteria to determine who wins. 2:36 PM Jul 7th via web
My sources are telling me that Lebron's TV hour will open with Seantrel Henderson's father rapping about OH NOES Miami Seantrel Henderson to Miami nearly a done deal? ? Miami Hurricanes ? Sun-Sentinel 2:25 PM Jul 7th via web

You've just eliminated 20% of your pool. That aside, name the other top 10 player on any of the following teams:

2010 Lakers
2009 Lakers
2006 Heat
1995 Rockets
1994 Rockets

While I don't agree with what he said completely, I see what he is saying. That is, assuming he means top 10 player in their position. In which case I think all of those teams had at least 2 guys in the top 10 of their positions in the league. But something else worth noting is, in the case of all 5 of those teams, there were a lot more than 2 top 10 players on the roster at some point in that players career. People forget some of the guys that were later in their careers on those rosters.

LeBrick has a massive self absorbed ego, its clear by all of this

the fans will only make this worse by enabling his ego and watching "The Decision"

Paul joins LeBron's marketing company - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Paul joins LeBron?s marketing company

After working for years to lure him away, LeBron James(notes) has finally attracted a star athlete to his LRMR marketing company: New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul(notes).

James and LRMR CEO Maverick Carter have been recruiting Paul for more than two years to join their fledgling marketing company, and the All-Star guard finally informed his agency at Octagon that he had decided to leave.

LRMR has yet to make a formal announcement that Paul will be joining them, and sources believed they might have been waiting to use James? Thursday night free-agent announcement as a backdrop to release the story.

"He?s left Octagon," Paul's agent Jeff Austin told Yahoo! Sports. "We're proud of the work we did with him over the past five years. We wish him nothing but the best...
