Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

the average jets fan couldnt find cleveland on a map... people in "the worlds greatest city" really could care less about some town in flyover country... the yankees dont give a damn about the indians. this makes you sound like a penn state fan, do you have some "rail" in your basement also?

compared to chicago fans vs cleveland fans i think cleveland has had way more battles in professional sports with NYC then chicago that actually meant something...thats why i brought up the playoff series with the jets and yankees throughout the many years compared to the series in the 90's with the bulls and cavs.....people are going to be pissed regardless of where lebron goes but if he goes to NYC its going to hurt alot worse then if he goes to chicago, no doubt....

yeah i dont think that matters much, much like a penn state fan it appears your attempt to create a non existent rival is an epic failure. someone do me a favor and post a picture of the "rail"

and on your second response...

Yea it is..

Some people just like to be annoying...

I'm just calling out the people who think they're making these statements about what kind of person Lebron is if he does this, that, or the other......when really all it boils down to is they want him in Cleveland or else he's a jerk and he's selfish and a million other reasons why you're better off without him.

None of these "reasons" are anything other than you guys either protecting yourselves against him leaving, or pretending like you were the all knowing when he stays.

He's not turning his back on a state or anything like that.....he's looking out for #1. You say him going to NYC means he's a selfish prick who only cares about money.....I say it's a way for him to rebuild a fallen franchise. It just depends on how you want to spin it, and everybody in this thread is spinning everything in Cleveland's favor.

AND I WANT HIM TO STAY IN CLEVELAND!

Does your great-grandmother have an opinion on no-touch icing?

for jurisdictional purposes, yes.
never got to a game in cleveland arena, which i would have though.
good for her, spry at 94, impressive.

it has nothing to do with what he is doing, everything to do with how he has approached it. nothing wrong in my view of testing the waters.

I agree in principle with what you are saying, but I think it is valid that a move to the Knicks would seem to go against his posturing.

If that even matters.

Personally, I would be less offended if he went to the Knicks than anywhere else. I don't give a shit about the Browns or the Indians. The only team in Cleveland I root for down here is the Cavs. I'd rather see the Akron kid carve out that place in history, become the greatest the sport has ever seen, become the global icon we hear about than take a shortcut to a championship or appease his friends. I think the best thing for the franchise is for him to stay in Cleveland. The second best is for him to go off and become a legend. He could help rebuild the Knicks, he could become something nobody else has. We could be watching a two-time MVP just starting to get warmed up with what he'll accomplish in the NBA. I think the Knicks offer the best opportunity for him to do that.

On the other hand, LeBron James is a player that can literally put a franchise on the map if he sticks it out. He will leave a legacy with whatever he decides. I'll be a Cavs fan regardless, but it just won't be the same...

I am an integrity junkie... it's who I am and what I am... I am also loyal to the core... Midwestern values / Akron raised ... part of the DNA

LBJ has presented himself as same... that preludes himself from making certain decisions... in order to support he is what he's been saying he is... "walk the talk.. don't talk the talk"

We didn't like Manny's decision, nor Thome's, nor Sabathia... but they never positioned themselves as LBJ has done... so therefore, we regrettably give them a pass... maybe even cheer for them under our breathe cuz they used to be 'ours' ... Look at Bernie Kosar.... he was the Browns LBJ.. loyal...

27.. you can't be surprised we spin everything the Cavs way.. be real dude... this is BP.. and we make no bones about die-hard OSU, Cavs etc... feelings... we don't try to hide it... we don't even try to be fair... it's who we are...

We're very glad you're gonna be a happy camper come Thursday night.. when LBJ validates the values he has proclaimed time and time again

I like you better already... Edit: Oh wait nevermind pussymade, I don't... 27 is a real man right here...

and yea you are probably right. But you know that being a fan means you're either with us or against us. That's just the way it is.

I don't blame him at all for doing him and I have previously said you can't blame him for looking around but at the same time I can't help feeling a bit betrayed if he leaves. It's just him being from Ohio and that we as fans have collectively rooted for and paid his salary for his whole life. He always talks about loyalty and Ohio and we return that. We're one other impact player away from a championship. All these are reasons why I'd like to think that LeBron would come back. Watching him over the last 7 years and the way he's acted makes you think he couldn't go anywhere else. I don't know.... I guess we'll find out how loyal he really is. It's like you can't blame him for leaving, but you can hate him for it. I think we've done enough to keep him here. We haven't won a championship but we aren't far away.

We've given him everything we have. We're close and now isn't the time to bail on us.. Sounds like we are begging him to come back and it's sad that we have to do that. But it's not our fault that he's made a circus of this...

he could sign with NY and then hope they can pick up Chris Paul in 2011. No way just he and Amare can get anything done by themselves in NY.

If he does stay in Cleveland, do they have anything left in which the can make a play for any other free agents? I mean, does Lebron want to resign with them knowing it's going to be the exact same team?

This is probably the most important factor in the hostility towards him if he leaves. We accepted Pete Rose because of his contributions and the Big Red Machine. If LeBron had won us a couple of titles, it would still be painful but we would be a lot more capable of accepting it.

I love how the ones bitching about this are the ones most interested in it. If it [censored]es you off, don't watch it. (which is exactly why this is a good idea because you will all be watching)

Like it or not, LeBron James' 'Decision' is all part of the plan, and it's working - ProBasketballTalk - Basketball - NBC Sports

Recognize that the people who are saying they won't watch this debacle, who are filled with outrage over James' little dog and pony show? James doesn't need them. Doesn't care about them. They're going to follow what he does anyway. He's already got them.
But you know what he does have use for? Everybody else.

James has often had the term "global icon" tied back to his business goals and branding image. It's a strong term and one that has a lot tied to it. It's difficult for a sports entity to reach that kind of level, especially in a day and age where things live and die in a matter of months (the Jonas Brothers were a really big deal two years ago; cower in fear Justin Bieber). Athletes have an even more difficult row to hoe. Most of the brand expansion opportunities are controlled by their team, by their league, by the networks that air the games they play in. They don't have that much power on their own. But James and his team have recognized this moment and are using it as a launchpad that will directly put them on another level with the people that matter most. Casual sports fans.

I'm not really sure why you think it would be that terrible if he went to NYC. You used some harsh words. IMO, it's worse if he goes to Chicago--it would make my skin crawl if he went to play for a fans who chanted "Cleveland sucks" (think about that one when it comes to turning your back on your city), not to mention that he'd be playing alongside Joakim Noah.

The Chicago move would upset me because I grew up hating the Bulls. But I could at least understand the move. New York would be a pure ego move. That's a shitty team there... I couldn't understand it or respect that type of move.
