This isn't about who has the best record. If it were, the Cavs/Lebron would have won back-to-back titles.
It's all subjective and no one has separated themselves, but I'll argue the point nonetheless.
In the East, your only contenders are Miami and Chicago. The teams in Atlanta, Indiana, and Philadelphia all have nice records and are having good years. But they have little to no playoff experience outside of Atlanta getting hammered in the 1st round every year. The Heat beat the Bulls 4-1 last year when Chicago had homecourt advantage and neither team is all that different this year.
The West is a bit down this year, but you still have multiple contenders and OKC is a young team that has never made it to the NBA Finals.
So if I had to handicap the easiest road to the Finals, it's Miami. Once you get there, it's all up in the air. So I still say the Heat are the (slight) frontrunners for the title.
The point is that these idiots (the Big 3) thought they'd be the overwhelming favorites year after year; that they'd threaten the Bulls 72-win season; that they'd win 7-8 titles; and that it would be "easy." The fact that there's even an argument about whether they are the favorites proves just how stupid Lebron was and still is.
