LB Trey Johnson (Official Thread)

If this season has shown anything is that you need to be 3 deep at each spot. Take all of em if we can and make sure they are ready when their time comes. Best will play and that is totally evident by the way Meyer runs his team. Awesome problem to have with too many recruits!!

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Auburn loses another high-prized football recruit

11/27

Auburn has lost another high-prized commitment from Georgia.

Trey Johnson, a 4-star linebacker from Central Gwinnett High School, de-committed from Auburn on Tuesday, according to his coach.

Urban Meyer has made LB Trey Johnson a recruiting priority (AP)

?In talking with Trey and his dad, they feel like it?s time to de-commit because they don?t even know who Trey is committed to at Auburn (without a new coach hired),? Central Gwinnet coach Todd Wofford told the AJC.

?Trey wanted to be fair to himself, and to be fair to the schools that are recruiting him. It is two months away from signing day, and he?s not in a position where he can wait to see what coach Auburn may hire, what defense they may run, and things like that.

Johnson?s de-commitment doesn?t come as much of a surprise. Ever since Gene Chizik was frequently mentioned as being on the hotseat, Johnson had openly communicated with other colleges.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder went on an official visit this past weekend to Ohio State, which is rumored to be the new frontrunner. Urban Meyer visited Johnson at school two weeks ago.

When asked if Ohio State was Johnson?s leader, his coach said, ?That was his first official visit, and Trey had a great time up there.?

I live in GA .. this kid is a freak, though I highly doubt he leaves the south. Good luck though, he'd be one heck of a get!

This is an OSU board so obviously most have some built in bias to their optimism. Still, rationally OSU looks in great position. Fla. already has 4 lb committments, and originally turned Anzalone away at lb because of this. I think they are in contact with Johnson in case they loose Mcmillan or Hearns before signing day. USC has scholly limitations that will likely keep the full press from being applied. PSU is..... Maybe a "monster hire" at one of the SEC openings will bring in a new player that will keep Johnson south. At this time I think there is reason for optimism from the Buckeye faithful.

What I find interesting is that the Atlanta newspaper article cited nearby has a picture of Urban Meyer in their story about Trey, but not picture of Trey.

Evidently, people in Georgia seem to be afraid of losing players to Urb?

ESPN - Coach: OSU visit with Trey Johnson 'great'

11/28

Luke Fickell talks enough Xs and Os during the season to fill up an entire warehouse of chalkboards.

On Wednesday, the Ohio State linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator just wanted to spend a little down time with Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett).

Fickell was at the ESPN 150 inside linebacker?s high school and then made an in-house visit with Johnson, but it was more about quality time and less about football.
