LB Trey Johnson (Official Thread)

So you are saying Noah Spence was not turned on by the Urban Meyer hiring last year?

Hard to believe there wasn't some recruiting continuity with Fick (and then Vrabel) who almost certainly would have introduced himself to Spence - a PA kid - under Tress and then again in the interim year. The PSU meltdown didn't hurt either.

He's had a track record of having a GREAT defense on national championship teams. A little different, even if he isn't a defensive minded coach.

Chill out, it was said mostly in tongue in cheek.

Meyer is known for being an offensive coach though. When you say Urban Meyer you think "spread offense" not anything defense related.

Oregon offers Trey Johnson
December, 5, 2012
By Brandon P. Oliver | ESPN.com

For the second time this week, the Oregon Ducks offered a star defensive recruit from SEC country. While trying to improve at the linebacker position, the Ducks continue to venture into the South in an effort to expand their recruiting reach. Early this week, the Ducks offered fast rising LB Zach Cunningham (Pinson, Ala./Pinson Valley).

Today Oregon wide receivers coach Scott Frost stopped by (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) and left after offering one of the elite defenders in the state. LB Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) will be honored at a ceremony on Thursday to recognize him as the region's defensive player of the year.

The former Auburn commit will have to decide if the late offer from Oregon is enough to get him across the country for a visit. Ohio State appears to be in a good spot for Johnson, but -- as always -- if the Ducks get him on campus, they could potentially become a player for the four-star LB.

AJC - Auburn?s recruits from Georgia react to hiring of Guz Malzahn

12/5

...Also, it remains to be seen how much of an impact Malzahn?s hiring will have on LB Trey Johnson, who de-committed from Auburn last week. ?I think it could be a good fit for Auburn, as far as someone that they are familiar with,? said Johnson?s coach at Central Gwinnett High School, Todd Wofford. ?But as far as Trey goes, it didn?t fire him up as much as the Kirby talk? ? Auburn?s consideration of Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. Ohio State and Florida are rumored to be the leaders for Johnson.

Two of those Florida LBs are listed as "soft" on Scout.

I'll take Urb with 2 rings as a HC, 0 true LBs in this class and a season where he had to move an offensive player to LB against Willy with 0 rings as a HC and his 2 strong and 2 soft LBs any day. Those pot odds are looking real nice.

Plus Hearns and McMillan aren't going anywhere despite the "soft verbal" designation. They are simply taking free visits.
