LB Ross Homan (official thread)

Buckeyes get back to business

Linebacker Ross Homan and his Buckeye teammates arrive for training camp

News Talk 610 WTVN | Best Buckeye Coverage | Columbus, Ohio

"Ohio State will also have a veteran defense, which includes all-big 10 linebacker Ross Homan. The senior from Coldwater expects the next three weeks of training camp to be a grind, but looks forward to the 2010 Buckeyes molding into a team."c

"You really bond with your teammates (in camp)," Homan said. "You're constantly with your teammates and I really look forward to that. Just being with your team the whole time for three weeks...you kind of find out some things about people and joke here and there...it's a fun time."

COMING INTO 2010, IT'S ALL ABOUT LEADERSHIP FOR ROSS HOMAN
By Joe Stueve

COLUMBUS ? When it comes to producing playmaking linebackers, Ohio State sure isn't shy.

Over the past decade, the Buckeyes have fielded a sharp amount of talented linebackers that seem to always rise to the occasion. From Matt Wilhelm to A.J. Hawk to James Laurinaitis, linebacking in Columbus has become a position of leadership, fame, and glory.

After Laurinaitis graduated from Ohio State, the defense was in need of a fresh face who could make the game-saving tackle or the momentum-shifting interception.

COLUMBUS ? He?s 94 now and long retired from the Carthagena farm where he and his wife raised 14 children thanks to crops of corn, soybeans and wheat and a Holstein dairy herd they milked ? morning and night ? 365 days a year.

Some 19 years ago Herman and Merilda Hoying moved into a one-story house in St. Henry. Though there are no stairs it?s still tough for him to get around and that?s why it took some coaxing by a couple of his daughters Sunday, Aug. 8, to get him to come to Ohio Stadium for Ohio State?s football team photo day and family picnic.

Told he not only could help launch a special season for his two grandsons ? Ross and Adam Homan, stalwarts of the No. 2 ranked Buckeyes ? but maybe re-enact some history of his own, Herman had just one question:

?Will I get to meet Jim Tressel??

Instead the Ohio State coach wanted to meet him.

?He treated me good,? Herman said a couple of days later as he sat at his dining room table back in St. Henry. ?He shook my hand ? a couple of times. We took some pictures and we talked.?

Alice Homan, Ross and Adam?s mother and Herman?s daughter, grinned: ?They kidded about things. Jim Tressel told him, ?I should ask you for some special plays because you?ve been watching football for a long time.? ?

In turn, Herman told the Bucks? boss: ?I supplied you guys with a lot of athletes.?

Tressel nodded and said ?Yes you have. You?ve done your share.?

Senior Spotlight - Homan
08/19/2010

Ross Homan sets his goal for the year which is to be a consistent player at both practices and games.

As the season gets rolling, Homan is always pushing himself to get better as a linebacker and player. Though the camp takes a toll physically and mentally, Homan is always pushing himself to flip the switch and get back to work especially in his senior season.

?Camp takes a toll on you physically and emotionally. You?re just trying to get yourself out of bed when you don?t feel like it. You?re so sore to where you can barely walk to go to the bathroom in the morning but you just have to flip the switch and get back to work? said Homan.

Buckeyes Name Six Captains for 2010 Season

...

"I'm excited and humbled," said Homan, a linebacker from Coldwater High in Coldwater, Ohio, who was the Buckeyes' leading tackler last season and has 215 career stops. "But because I'm a captain, my role won't change. I want to still be the same hard-working person."

You would think people would learn after underestimating him last year. This guy is a Beast.

Homan is a lunch pail guy. Quietly goes about being solid, doing his job. I suspect any such ranking would be higher when the season is done and I suspect that, barring injury, the NFL will like him more than the 21st LB.

Homan is a grinder...the kinda guy you want to go to war with. Glad he's on our team.

A lunch pail guy, a grinder who put up almost the exact same stats as Laurinaitis when he won the defensive player of the year award.

115 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 5 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles

108 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 5 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumbles recovered

One stat line earned defensive player of the year, the other is the 21st best linebacker in the country.

It is all about hype, and for some unknown reason Homan just doesn't have it.

Not even trying to hate on Laurinaitis but I think Homan is a better player and better pro prospect. Homan is better against the run and just as good against the pass.

If Ohio State makes its way to the NC this year, don't worry my friends, Homan will be a household name around the country. Better late than never.
