LB Ross Homan (official thread)

Ross set a new Coldwater record Saturday at the lift-a-thon.

The Coldwater Community Picnic was this past weekend (I'm still feeling the after effects) and the annual Cavalier Lift-a-thon took place Saturday afternoon.

Ross' first attempt was 365 and he did it with ease. He then attempted the break the previous record (400 pounds held by Class of 2003 DE Dusty Uhlenhake) with his second lift at 405 pounds. He did this successfully and then went up to 415 pounds for his final lift --- once again success.

The kid is absolutely stacked and I can't wait to see what he does this year on the field.

On another note, his little brother Adam, a freshman, may be getting moved from Center to Fullback. He's about 6'1 or 6'2 and probably 240 pounds. Haven't seen him play yet but he must be really impressing everyone on the team.

I'll keep you guys updated.

****Also, that stat is incorrect on the quote about Ross having 137 total tackles. He had over 200 last year, I'm positive on that. The listed 137 is inaccurate.

I'm really excited to see what Ross can do this year. It sounds like he has gotten a lot bigger as well. No doubt in my mind he'll have a fantastic senior year and will be a major contributor at tOSU for many years.

I wouldn't call anyone that size a "little" brother. Younger, yes. Certainly not little. Is he going to be playing varsity as a frosh?

Hey Cavball is Ross going to lead Coldwater to a state title.

They're gonna have a hard enough time winning the MAC title to worry about state, eh Cavball?!! :p

Ah, who am I kidding? If Ross is on the field, there is little doubt you guys'll crush my 'cats........ :sad2:

Congrats to Ross for breaking the records. That's pretty impressive.

Don't tell me you are from Kenton.

Hey Cavball is Ross going to lead Coldwater to a state title.

Do you think they have enough talent to run throught the Mac this year.

Let's worry about regular season first. The MAC is loaded as always. I see it as a 5 way race between Coldwater, Versailles (Div V now), St Henry (Div V), Delphos St Johns (Div VI now) and Marion Local (Div VI). Minster & New Bremen will once again be fighting to reach that top end of the league. If Coldwater can finish with at least 8 wins (gonna be tough -- non-conference is Kenton -- Div III power and @ Dublin Jerome, a 2nd year Div II school) they should make playoffs.

The good news about playoffs is that Versailles (formerly Div IV R 16 -- is now D5). I think Delta is also out of our Region (14) and I think two other schools bumped out.

Is he going to be playing varsity as a frosh?
Yes, he will be playing Varsity. Not sure if he'll start to being the season, but I'd be shocked if he wasn't playing significant minutes and should start by season's end. They wanted to try him at center, but I guess they now want to see what he can do at FB. He's a big kid with some baby fat on him yet, but he's very strong (I think he's putting up 250 as an incoming frosh) and athletic. Someone told me he's not 240 yet, more like 225-230, but I could see him being a ripped 250 or 260 by the time he's a senior. Their oldest brother Ryan is probably 270 and he's cut.

They're gonna have a hard enough time winning the MAC title to worry about state, eh Cavball?!

I agree 100%, the MAC is too tough to start looking ahead to playoffs.

Don't tell me you are from Kenton.

I believe he's referring to fellow MAC school Minster. Good to have a fellow MACster on here.

here's an interesting eval. from Jeremy Beckham on Bearcatinsider. he's getting close to being on my list of idiots from scout.com. ever since he showed up on BN acting as Lee Tilley's mouthpiece and bashing tOSU and their "recruitment" of Tilley.

Scout$

basically he calls Homan the most overrated LB in OH. Says Gibson is the best, followed by Mixon and Moeller (who he says should be a S at the next level). says that because Ross plays lower competition that he isn't as good.

I will put it like this, instinct is instinct at any level of competition, and thats something all the weightlifting and athleticism in the world can't get u, and from the videos I saw, Homan has plenty of it. Then add his strength and athletic ability to that and u have on freakish Linebacker.

I know when Dave from BearcatInsider saw Ross because I was at the game. He was saying he didn't think he was all he was cracked up to be and didn't think he was as big as listed (well I think the combines proved that wrong).

He also didn't think he had what it took to play inside (I told him he was going to be a Will) and that he basically thought he was overrated. Well the OSU offer came and he is being recruited as a Will. I think I won that argument.

Ross did have a sub-par game, but what people don't notice is that our DT were getting mauled by Versailles huge OL (I think they averaged 250 last year) and Ross was getting based 1-1 blocked by Scott Broerman, arguably Versailles' best OL last year. There were some plays were he was getting doubled. Tough to shine in those situations.

I'm not going to sit here and say Ross is the next coming of Christ or anything like that, I just want to defend him when he's being called "one of the most overrated players."

Jeremy definately has an axe to grind with OSU, so take it for what it's worth. If Mixon was at OSU, you might have heard a different tune.

Whatever though, let them have fun writing about their second-tier program at Cincy.

Let it be known: We are absolutely thrilled to have Ross Homan as one of the next great OSU linebackers. He is an absolute stud with bloodlines connected with the OSU record books, and also is a terror on the football field, recording something near 500 tackles in OHSAA football. He still has a year to play. Ross is exactly what OSU is looking for to replace the great class of LB's we are losing. Anyone who would like to dispute any part of this thread is...something i cannot classify. Go Ross, Go Bucks
