LB Raekwon McMillan (Official Thread)

Raekwon McMillan and Dante Booker, two of Ohio State's highest-ranked recruits in the "Dream '14," were selected to the Parade All-American teams this weekend, an honor that ranks among the most prestigious in all of high school sports. McMillan and Booker join Michigan commitment Jabrill Peppers as the only Big Ten (potential) signees to make the cut. McMillan, who is already enrolled at Ohio State, and Booker were two of four linebackers selected.

Ash will keep it simple. This will help guys like RM see the field early but I doubt he's a starter.
If Curtis Grant can't continue to play(concussion and back issues) then it will be a battle for his spot. We also would need to see if Trey Johnson or Mike Mitchel might get a shot in the middle. RM is your classic down hill middle linebacker.

I thought Trey was a weakside LB, Mitchell is the major competition for McMillan, and Mitchell can probably play strongside

I didn't do such a great job of explaining myself. Rushed and on my phone didn't help.

What I intended to communicate is the impact those players had in their point in their careers. Archie, as a younger guy winning the Heisman, for example... I'm not much of a Heisman historian, but were there many juniors who won before him?

And Big Kat... As a true frosh... was unreal. He played the position as well as most upperclassmen at the time. Certainly had the impact greater than most upperclassmen playing the position at the time.

Not to take anything away from Spiels. He's arguably one of the best in the position in his career as a Buckeye. But I don't recall him having that kind of impact as a frosh.

Spiels was on the Wheaties box when he was still in High School...

Young guys can still be moved to fit the situation and get the best guys on the field. Look at the skill set , from what we know of Mitchell. He's a very fast, tall kid who can cover a lot of ground. That sounds like an outside backer. Trey Johnson has a skill set like a middle backer but maybe not the perfect skill set for a MLB like McMillan. With Ash coming in we can expect some moves to fit a certain style of defense. Some moves have already happened.

I thought that if Ash as going to switch positions, he'd be doing it for guys in the secondary, and it'd be Fickells call on who changes positions in the LB corp. I'm all for having Trey, Mike and Raekwon on the field at the same time if they're our best Lbs(or any combination of the 2 best LBs, since we're primarily in nickel)
