LB Palaie Gaoteote (Official Thread)

True.

Still, there is juts something about pecker slapping those Longhorn jerkoffs.

From a Longhorn board:

Longhorns No Longer Favorites To Add USC Transfer LB Palaie Gaoteote?

Have the Texas Longhorns fallen behind in the chase for USC Transfer linebacker Palaie Gaoteote?

Looking to add some depth on both sides of the ball, the Texas Longhorns have been immersed in the NCAA Transfer Portal, hoping to find replacements for their recent losses.

Last week, that search had taken a positive turn, with the Longhorns seemingly the front runners to land talented USC transfer inside linebacker Palaie Gaoteote.

However, that pursuit of Gaoteote may have hit a major roadblock in recent days, when, per a report from Horns247's Mike Roach, the Ohio State Buckeyes became involved in his recruitment.

With the Buckeyes now involved, the Longhorns, per Roach are not only no longer considered the runaway favorites for the linebacker's services, but likely seen as the underdog's in the pursuit behind the defending Big 10 champions.

However, with the Buckeyes now involved, it seems that Texas may have to look elsewhere to fill those voids.

The Buckeyes were immediately linked to Gaoteote when he entered the transfer portal. His previous affinity for Ohio State, his close bond with Haskell Garrett and questions about the Buckeyes linebacker depth made it seem like a natural fit. Gaoteote was patient as other recruiting dominoes fell, and when Henry To’o To’o picked Alabama, Ohio State had to decide whether or not renewing the pursuit of the 6-foot-2, 250-pound former 5-star was worth it.

It seems as though they believe it is.

No one wants to upset the chemistry of the current roster by forcing a player from another program into the mix, but that’s one of the areas where Gaoteote may actually make more sense than To’o To’o would have for Ohio State.

The relationship with Garrett is one thing, but the Buckeyes coaching staff knows Gaoteote as well. They recruited him, they know who he is, who his family is and how he would fit in the program. Key veterans on the Ohio State defense, including in the linebacker room, got to know him during his recruitment and at The Opening in the summer of 2017.

It’s easy to assume because the Buckeyes chased To’o To’o and now another top-ranked linebacker in the portal that there’s unease with the talent on the current roster. That’s not the case, at all. There has to be unease around the current depth, however. It was just a month ago when Ohio State was play long-snapper Roen McCullough at linebacker. He had to fill in during the spring game without ever practicing there.

That’s a concern that needs addressed. No one on the current roster who is healthy fits the role Palaie Gaoteote does.

Gaoteote — whose full name is pronounced Paula-ee-ay Now-tay-oh-tay — ia tackling machine who studies game tape like it’s the SAT.

Gaoteote, too, acknowledges his feel for football as his most valuable asset but does so rather humbly, a credit to the Samoan culture he quite literally wears on his sleeve in the form of a tribal tattoo that encompasses half of his right arm.

“It means everything,” he said of his heritage. “(My tattoo) basically is a rite of passage to my manhood. Tells the story of me and my upbringings and where I’ve been.”

Gaoteote’s story began in American Samoa, where his father, a former Airborne Ranger in the U.S. Army, coached high school football and introduced him to speed and footwork drills at age 3.

Inspired by his dad and uncle Ma’a Tanuvasa, a hall-of-famer at Hawaii who won two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos, Gaoteote started flag football in kindergarten as his family moved to Oahu. He began playing tackle football as a seventh-grader.

Re: J.T. Tuimoloau, of Samoan ancestry, is a defensive end for the Eastside Catholic Crusaders (Sammamish, WA).

Just wonderin': Could we hit the "daily double" with recruits that have Samoan ancestry?

Holy shit, this is huge. I remember watching some Bishop Gorman games before I knew who PG was and was just blown away with his instincts and athleticism. I was really, really hoping we would land him as a recruit and I am glad he is home. Amazing pickup and honestly, I prefer PG over Too Too. Bare minimum he gets in the rotation at LB.

See I felt the same way in regards to PG over Too Too. PG has been unlucky with some injuries but he's got a good 20+ pounds on Too Too with the same ability to run.

We really needed PG and it's a bonus that he's an outstanding player. We needed another bigger LB if you ask me. We have Mitchell and Eichenburg as bigger LBs but otherwise our guys are in that 225-230 range.

I tend to disagree, PG wasn't NEEDED, he provides good depth. But we face few power running teams, most of CFB is spread and LBs have to cover or they become massive liabilities. I didn't think HTT was a necessity and I think the same about PG. With the Bullet, we only have 2 LBs anyway, which decreases the amount of LBs needed on the roster. I don't see everyone staying on the roster after PG transfers in
