LB Nick Conner (Official Thread)

I'll have to mirror @Bestbuck36's sentiment mostly (I won't compare him to Spielman though, my age prevents my qualifications there). I'm about positive the kid is going to be great at the next level and if it's for MSU, he is going to be a thorn in our side for 4 years. This is coming from the guy that always advocates "you can't take 'em all" in regards to Ohio players because simply put, there will be guys from Ohio that do well that we didn't offer. But Nick is right in our backyard, has incredible film, and backed it up in person at the combines against the nation's best. He is a great competitor and a technician that could contribute immediately here. We are well aware of him.

Although I LOVE Baker and see him in this class regardless, but I would take Conner over him and I will play along with this hypothetical...I just think he is much more of a sure thing. Conner is plenty athletic and plays well in coverage, which is Baker's strong suit. Conner is more of a pure LB and plays the position well...Baker's transition is a question mark. Conner has greater instincts at the position and any alleged deficiencies in athleticism are more than made up for with his early diagnosis of plays. I could go on, but hopefully the staff just wants him to camp and earn an offer...I really hope that is the case. All this being said, the last word I heard is that we would be happy with Baker and Hilliard but would take a 3rd if it was a guy at the top of the boards (i.e. SKL before he committed or Holland). However, I am still holding out hope that he camps with us and shows himself worthy of a spot.

Edit: Oh and Nick just won MVP of the LBs at the freaking 5-star challenge competing with all the best in the country...so yeah.

Could not have put it any better.

A guy who just knows how to play the position. Look at all of the athletes that this defense has yet they have to think too much on the field and lose the advantage of that athleticism. Conner is a sure thing at LB in my mind. He may not have the upside of McMillan but I don't see a coordinator needing to worry about him not knowing his assignment and being disciplined. Could be a glue type of player for the rest of the guys around him. Field general is how I'd describe him best. (Borland and Bullough are recent guys that I can see him being in college)

I think the entire argument is a moot point. I think he is going to win an OFFER at camp soon.
This. People keep complaining about him not having an offer but having one from MSU. But he just got offered a week or two ago.....at their camp. He's coming in a few weeks. Depending on how he does, combined with how the staff feels about their possibilities with SKL going forward, I think that's when he'll either get the offer or probably never get it (unless we miss on either Hilliard or baker).

Borland is plenty athletic enough for Ohio State.
Based on what? Even if he were "plenty athletic" which he is not, he is very short & equally short arms. He's instinctive and an enforcer on the field
Last season, Meyer said something to the effect that the Buckeyes missed on Borland and that Borland should have been a Buckeye.
Because they needed more pure football players and Chris is the epitome of that.
BTW, Conner just won MVP at the Rivals 5 star camp in Baltimore.
Hopefully he makes the coaches feel that way in Columbus
