LB Mike Mitchell (transfer to Texas Tech, transfer to Southeastern FL)

Legitimate argument to be made by whom? Or who? (I don't know proper English works.)

Not one of us.
Sure we can make the argument. That's what this site is for, so that fans can make an argument for or against lots of topics. I said a legitimate argument could be made that Mike should have played all the minutes that Cam played. Cam's play or lack thereof and the praise coming out of practice about Mike bolsters that argument IMO. If you disagree then please feel free to state your case. This is exactly the place to do it.

Let's just let the whole thing go and move on. Urban, I'm sure was well aware of what was going on. Coach could have stepped in if it was an issue but let it play out. Wish the family well and move on.

For once I agree with the forum hippie. Let it go guys, it's not worth debating. If Mike really wants to return, he will. If he chooses to proceed in his career somewhere else after his father recovers, so be it.

Well documented throughout his recruitment, and so ill he can not even fly. Really?
Wow, just makes no sense that both of his sons would have even considered going to school that far away from home.

Sometimes it's best to keep your thoughts to yourself.

It isn't your place to question the Mitchell family, the illness or their decisions pertaining to the illness. Just stop please.

Just came across this. Wow, I feel like the guy who sees a movie 10 years later and wants to talk about it now.

I really hope this isn't a redshirt/PT issue. Sure, maybe he was healthy at the end of the year and presumably better than other options ahead of him on the depth chart. But if it's a playing time issue it reminds me of when recruits leave your program on NCAA Football because of playing time when they're projected to start next year. I know players want to make that instant impact, but there was still a great future for MM regardless of a redshirt or not. Personally, I think it's better for a player to redshirt than to see garbage time and waste a year of eligibility.

I don't know that coaches truthfully make the promise of playing time or not. I was fortunate enough to be in a group of students who sat down with Frank Solich and asked him some questions. He seemed rather honest and straight forward than the standard politically correct response type. Like he admitted that once BCS schools (no matter if it's a Kentucky, Ohio State, or Purdue) offer/show high interest he knows Ohio U. doesn't have a shot at getting the player and they move on. As for promises, he NEVER promises a recruit anything. He may say they'll have the chance to play immediately or maybe even challenge for a starting role, but they're still recruits that haven't proven the ability to hang with a FBS program.

It's possible other coaches don't feel the same way as coach Solich. However, I think it makes a lot of sense not to guarantee a prospect anything. The better the prospect, the more I can see you suggesting is a possibility, but guaranteeing playing time is a big commitment. What happens if a player from within the program already has an outstanding off-season and the light comes on? Wouldn't that in turn create another situation where one player feels he's clearly better than the player above him? So maybe recruits here the things they want to and assume the coach meant differently.

As for MM transferring for his father's illness. I totally get it. Family comes first. No gripes about that reason. It sucks for Ohio State, but we'll survive. I wish MM the best and a successful career.
