LB Mike Mitchell (transfer to Texas Tech, transfer to Southeastern FL)

I wanted very badly to see MM not only play but have a great career with TOSU, I only hope and pray he gets to spend some valuable time with his father while he can, I know all to well having dealt with a similar situation with my mother last year, these are moments and times you'll never get again, I feel for you and am praying for you....good luck mike

From 2001 to 2011, Ohio State signed 222 recruits, 134 from Ohio and 88 from out of state.

60 of those signees left the program early for a reason other than entering the NFL draft or career-ending injury (transfer, dismissal, quit football).

30 of those early departures were from Ohio, and 30 were from out of state. In other words, 22.4% of the Ohio signees left early (30/134), and 34.1% of the out of state signees left early (30/88). That means that out of state kids are 50% more likely to leave the program early, which is the main risk with signing out of state kids.

With that being said, best of luck to Mike and his family.

Sucks in numerous ways. First and foremost, I wish his father well whatever the health condition might be. And of lesser importance, I think Dontre and Mike were the two recruits from last year's class that I was most looking forward to watching blow up in S&G the next few years. It is a shame we won't see part of that equation. It looks like the bb Bucks are going to lose Mickey as well. The Mitchell's really seem to be a quality family from what I have heard. I wish them all the best. Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye. And for the boys, I hope they both find a school where they can excel academically and athletically and yet still spend some quality time with their father.

Love my buckeyes, love the coaches, but there no excuse here....this is the most f****ing stupid mistake a coach can make. We lost an AA safety Jeremy Cash b/c we blew his RS year with one play on special teams, and we lose another one b/c we chose to sit the kid whom by all accounts was really coming on at the end of the season. Think about this for a moment: was Mitchell really a worse MLB than our injured 2nd team WLB at the end of last year?

Talk about coaches being leaders....this is like leading troops to battle and forgetting to bring a compass. Really sorry stuff right here.

Wait huh? That reads like he's leaving because of playing time and not because of his father's illness....??

I don't know the family situation so I can't answer that for you, but these is a lot of murmur going around that Mike wasn't happy at Columbus. And if there's one thing that makes a kid unhappy, it's being 15 hours away from home and sitting on the bench behind an injured 2nd team WLB.

Different varying stories out there on why he is really transferring, mike80. Speculation is that he is leaving b/c of pops health but also that the writing has been on the wall since the fall, when our LB situation wasn't the greatest, that he was not happy that he wasn't given a shot to play and was told to redshirt. I have been under the impression that they decided to redshirt him due to injury but it sounds like from a few different articles (sorry, don't remember sources) that he could have played if needed and he hasn't really been around much of the team or team facilities since the Orange Bowl. That is what I have gathered so far in the past few days.
