LB Mike Mitchell (transfer to Texas Tech, transfer to Southeastern FL)

I don't think it was Meyer, likely his family told him it's crazy to commit to a school that far away without visiting.

His dad has repeatedly said it's Mike's decision so feel good about that, don't see how a visit will hurt our chances with him and he will have a shot at early playing time.

PCA?s Mike Mitchell nabs U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection
From Staff Reports
Published: Wednesday, October 3, 2012
Prestonwood Christian Academy senior Mike Mitchell has been selected to participate in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The bowl?s selection tour will visit the Prestonwood campus on Oct. 10 to make the selection official. Prestonwood will honor Mitchell before his teammates, classmates and family members during an assembly in the student learning center.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-4, 216-pound four-star recruit who is currently ranked No. 18 in the state by ESPN for the Class of 2013, has been a standout linebacker for the Lions this season while also chipping in as the team?s primary kickoff returner.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl will take place on Jan. 5 at noon from the Alamodome and will be televised live on NBC.

Mike is the LB equivalent of Joey Bosa on the defensive line. The two of them in the same front 7 would be unreal. With us needing a starting MLB pronto, I could see Mike having a Katzenmoyer-like freshman season for us.

I was thinking the same thing about 2 minutes into the 3rd video.

He physically looks like the Big Kat out there, truly impressive. Whether or not he could step on the field at any school as a true freshman and have a Big Kat like freshmen year is a whole other story but that would have nothing to due with physical ability because he has that in spades.

Whoa there. This kid COULD be good-great at school but it's so hard to foresee and compare. Especially since we have a former 5star, cant miss guy at LB now and he's not performing exactly lights out

Seeing as though Storm Klein is graduating, your options at starting MLB next year are going to be your "former 5-star, can't miss LB" (Curtis Grant), a guy we bring in from another LB position (likely Conner Crowell), or a guy we bring in in the 2013 class (hopefully Mike Mitchell).

Like I said, I could see him having a Katzenmoyer-type freshman season for us. Katzenmoyer started his first game of his freshman year, and who's to say Mike couldn't do that, esp. with the play we've had at MLB this year and Urban's penchant for playing freshmen early?

It absolutely could happen. There is one thing that has to take place first and that occurs the first Wednesday in February. So, if Mitchell signs then you are right about the open competition for that spot although I think Jamal Marcus and some other current freshman will be in the conversation too, not just Crowell.

Here is hoping that:

a.) He signs
b.) He is good enough to be in the conversation for a starting spot and most importantly
c.) Grant, Crowell, and the current freshman give him some very tough competition for that spot and the staff has a tough choice because we have several good options.

If by some measure all 3 happened and he walked out on the field for our first defensive possession against Vandy on 8-31-13 then I'd say Mr. Mitchell is already a stud in my book.

The last white, workout freak, large LB we had come in was Mike D'Andrea ten years ago. Things didn't work out so well with Mike (injuries were the major problem, but the few times he saw the field healthy he didn't exactly bring back memories of Katzenmoyer).

Big Kat started yes, but was made successful mainly because of his flanking O/S 'backers, Jerry Rudzinski, and Greg Bellasari. They covered what the Andy K missed, and allowed him to free lance. It worked!

Now, to bring it back to Mitchell, if he came in to tOSU next year, he has a chance to start, yes, and yes, he would have the O/S 'backers on each of his sides as well to help make him successful as well, just like the Big Kat did/was.

Don't forget about Camren Williams but I agree 100% on the Bosa comparison. The way he plays the game, the two look like twins...just violent, tons of effort, and athletic as can be. Players like Mitchell and Bosa are exactly what we need on our defense...they've got that "see and kill" John Simon mentality that UFM loves. Well, that we all love.

Hopefully we are going all out to land Mike. If he doesn't end up being a future star, I would be shocked.
