LB Mike D'Andrea (official thread)

I think he will step right back in where he left off next year. Schlegel is a beast and can really get after it, but he is not the athlete that D'Andrea is.

What frightens me is the immense loss we will suffer at the LB position after next season. I can't recall ever losing our top 4 LBs at the same time.

D'Andrea could take a regular RS year next season, but I can't see him doing that - unless JT begs him.

Oh8ch, I agree that if D'Andrea can return at 100% he'll step back into the starting position. Schlegel has been good, but not the all-world MLB that nearly everyone on this board predicted him to be. Your idea to have him RS next year is actually plausible, and I think that Mike would seriously consider it if Tressel asked him.

i agree, it would be a very good idea. A. he wouldn't have to worry about sharing time with schlagel and B. (and more importantly) he won't have hawk the all american getting all the press throughout the season. even if he beats out schlagel for the position, he is still going to be overshadowed by hawk no matter what he does.

he takes a redshirt and comes back the year everyone else leaves he becomes the "only" big name. which means the announcers are going to be talking all about him. he doesn't have to outdo anyone, just has to play to his ability. better for the team, and worlds better for his likelyhood status when/if he goes pro. as odd as it sounds, so long as he comes back 100%, this injury may have been the best thing to happen for his pro prospects. no way no how he gets more media press than hawk.

wouldnt danimal have a chance (after next season) to petition the ncaa for an extra year because of this injury....if he chooses to.... not a redshirt, but the extra year.....like they are trying with josh huston....

According to Harvard’s student-athlete handbook, medical hardship waivers are granted in cases in which the player suffers an incapacitating injury or illness and three conditions apply: the injury or illness occurs during one of the player’s four seasons of competition, it occurs prior to the completion of the first half of the regular season and it occurs before the player has played more than two events or 20 percent of the total number of contests actually played during the season, whichever is greater.

you are correct....for some reason i thought the medical hardships were more forgiving....but i was mistaken....

I hope he can get the redshirt........because he's by far my favorite buckeye. I'd love to have him here for two more years...... and yes it even includes Troy Smith. I'd have to think his speed will be effected by this injury

There is a thread on BN suggesting that is where he will go when he comes back.

You know, people like that remind me of those mentally challenged kids that keep burning themselves on hot things time after time and never learning from it...it just doesn't sink in (my apologies to anyone who may have or knows any mentally challenged kids, or personally knows tibor).
