LB Mike D'Andrea (official thread)

D'Andrea has also not used his redshirt, would that help/play into his case at all?

D'Andea can skip this season to heal and play in 2006 without a medical redshirt, since 2005 is his fourth season of five allotted. However, the medical exemption would eliminate one of the seasons he played hurt (2003 or 2004), or combine them into one, essentially "giving him back" a season of eligibility. If they did, then he would've played only two seasons eligibility-wise in their eyes, thus letting D'Andrea play this season and next season.

In other words, you normally get five seasons to play four. He's played in the three seasons he's been there, so he has two more seasons (five season total) to play one more (four played). The medical waiver would take away a season played, so he would have three seasons attended but only two played, giving him the chance to play this year (fourth attended, third played) and next year (fifth attnded, fourth played).

I caught part of Tressel's press luncheon, and he said that the NCAA has granted Mike an appeal on a medical redshirt. That sounds pretty promising, usually they allow it from this point. JT went on to say that they are hoping to have him by midseason at the latest, and that he is certainly not 100%.

He also gave Miami OH a lot of praise....in Lou Holtz fashion :wink2: . He talked alot of their team speed, which I think was a little overplayed......but we'll see. Usual stuff pretty much.

We thought we were suffering a hit after the 2002 season when we lost Wilhelm and Grant, and yet their replacements turned out alright. I think we may not lose as much as we think when Hawk, Carpenter, and Schlegel graduate.

We do always seem to find another group at that spot. I th9ought the same thing after Katzenmoyer left, but then Wilhelm stepped up and now Hawk. It's been a joy to watch, but giving D'Andrea another shot just feels like justice to me.

D'Andrea came out og high school with plenty of talent and hype - I cant wait to see it used on the field. Hes a monster that just has the swager and cocky attitude that makes you nervous. I dont think Ive ever seen the fucker smile, lol. Next year wont be too bad if he can fully recover from his injuries...

I think that out of all our LBs next year, Freeman will stand out the most. I dont know what what it is about him, but he always looks in top shape, ready to play any down and has the skills. Ive heard the comments of sports writers say, "Freeman would start on 118 other teams." Its true.

So if we have another Bad Ass LB Corps next year, its it safe to assume we have taken over PSUs title of "LB University."?
