LB Marcus Freeman (HC Notre Dame, Constant Backtracker)

Freeman is a great kid, but I think it's time that we work in some of the younger guys like Moeller, Rolle or Hines at his spot. His tackling has gotten slightly better over the past three seasons, but is still a liability at times, and pass coverage is supposed to be his forte, yet he was burned two weeks in the row for long TDs. Just like Todd, great young man, but if we want to become a next level team by the time Michigan rolls around, it's time to do something different.

I agree time to move on!! Sabino would be my pick for SAM.

You know he played Will all day today. He had a couple of good games but has never tackled well one on one!!!

Thank You. People like to whine and complain that moving him to SLB is affecting his production. But, in reality, he is playing the WILL spot whenever the nickel back comes in, which is 95% of the time against spread teams (like Troy).

For those complaining about his coverage on the touchdown, he was one of the few players with good enough coverage to actually make an attempt on the ball and came up inches short. Since he made a play on the ball, we wasn't able to wrap up the receiver.

Are you saying his production has not fallen off? To me, he looks as if he has reverted to his less-physical style of play after taking huge strides last year.

yup I'd like to see Freeman in a position to succeed here. The problem is YES we do have depth at the LB position but I think it's young depth.

How about this thought??

Laurintius-Spitler-Freeman

I wont' lie I hate James playing middle linebacker. I think he's about 20-25 pounds too light (remember he's like 6'3") and has troubles shedding those big guys inside.

82 is right on the money.. it was a bad move putting him at SAM.. and what is worse is that the move was mainly made to get Homan on the field, and Homan has been pretty invisible to date.

Marcus had a very fine yr in 2007 and was showing the skills we all knew he had. The change of position was a bad bad move.

We should move him back to WILL, and IMO, Jermale Hines should be playing the SAM.. Get Freeman back into the role he excelled at a year ago, and get some needed speed at LB.. Jermale has the speed to keep up with the FBs and TEs that leak out.. and he has experience playing the SAM.. pretty sure he spend his frosh yr playing it.

Why is everyone so high on Homan. He always looks a step to slow.

Same could be said of Freeman, look slow today from the WLB side too!!! Freeman has never been good in space, as I have said for three year now being on one side of the field or the other does not make you miss tackles. As for Homan, I wish the rest of the team were as productive as him. We have played four games in two games Homan got about 10% of the snaps and about 50% in the other two games. And is still third on the team in tackles and leads in solo tackle what do you want from him?
