Interview with Jordan and a team mate headed to Central Michigan

Very cool interview for those who haven't checked it out. Jordan was obviously very enthused about becoming a Buckeye, but what really struck me was that he doesn't look or sound anything like a HS athlete but more like someone who's already been in the league for a few years. Best of luck to him. :osu:

Whiting wins award

Trinity High School linebacker Jordan Whitinghas been honored for his successful high school athletic career.

Whiting has been announced as winner of the Kentucky Farm Bureau High School Male Athlete of the Year.

Whiting will receive his award on April 29 at the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame banquet in Louisville.

Whiting has earned most of his notoriety on the football field, helping Trinity to four consecutive state titles. He was the leading tackles as a linebacker for the past three seasons is a two-time All-State performer and was named to three All-American teams.

The Ohio State University signee also helped Trinity to a state title in wrestling last month and was a member of the school's 2006 track and field state championship team. He's also a member of Trinity's power lifting team, which has won three straight national championships. As a sophomore Whiting set a national teen record with a 545-pound dead lift at his 220-pound weight class.

Cont'd ...

Better Know a Buckeye feature on Jordan Whiting:

Jordan?s story (for my purpose here) starts in the summer of 2007, as he was readying for his junior year at Trinity HS. While contact with coaches before the junior year is constricted by NCAA guidelines and official offers allowable only on and after September 1st of the junior year, Jordan?s name started to pop up in the recruiting world. Why Jordan was about to make such an early splash requires little conjecture. As a sophomore, he was arguably the best player on his Trinity Shamrocks team, a team that had just won its second consecutive 4A state championship. This November 30, 2006 blog entry at the Courier-Journal forbodes his rising stock.

Wednesday night at the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, Ohio State linebacker Jordan Whiting received his award as the Kentucky Farm Bureau Male High School Athlete of the Year.

After the ceremony, Whiting was humble about the situation. "It's a tremendous honor," said Whiting, who was the first verbal commitment of his class for head coach Jim Tressel. "I'm just blessed to be put in these situations and I don't see it as an ending. I see it as a beginning of things to come."

Look for a full article on Whiting and his trip to the Spring Game at Bucknuts soon.

I ran into Jordan a couple of times at the spring game as he was signing autographs. He was amazingly well spoken for a high school senior. He seemed to down to earth and down to business. He stood out amoung the incoming recruits with his poise. I predict good things for Mr. Whiting and I am very glad that he is a buckeye. My signed cup is now my favorite memory from the Spring game. (Jer'Male Hines' signature washed off my girlfriends breast but that is a picture for another thread...)

Update on Jordan. His first year as a Buckeye went well for him, he saw real fast that it is not Highschool football. Grades were ok could have been better, but to be expected for a 1st yr freshman, finished with a 2.70. He plans on be on academic all american team. He is excited for spring ball so we will see what takes place. Over all a sucessful 1st half of the year. Stay tuned for further updates.:osu:
